I'll call BS on the lume - even a watch that old should have super luminova (SL) rather than tritium and SL doesn't 'wear out'.

If it's a A13035, it'll be pre-2000 which likely means a tritium dial. I have a '99 Chronomat and that has tritium, and very little luminescence left in the markers. Having said that, a new Chronomat dial was something like £140 plus taxes, so not OTT. (I didn't bother - aside from the weak lume, nothing wrong with the old one.) $618 plus tax seems like a huge amount for a Colt dial, chrono or otherwise!

I think prices quoted by dealers, who mark up the cost of the refurb, are generally much higher than going direct. Example:

Old '99 Chronomat Breitling "full service": £360 via Breitling. £750 via Wempe.

Does your '99 have T on the dial - that's a lot later than I understood it to still be used.

Why don't you send it directly to Breitling for service? Any other company will want to make $$ out of your repair.

Ad pricing is the same as Breitling direct pricing because the actual servicing is done by Breitling. ADs may charge you for shipping, but sending it direct will also incur shipping costs

Thank you. Is great to know that!

I told Tourneau that I'm going to take a pass on the repair and want my watch back. When I picked up my watch earlier today from Tourneau, I was shocked that my watch is working again. The real question is did my watch really need all those services recommended by Tourneau or was it something very minor. I know it's an old watch but it's hardly used and in almost mint condition. I'm going to hang on to the watch and see what happens. If it stops again, I'm going to send it to BUSA next time. Thanks to everyone for your inputs as I have learned a lot from this process.

So glad to see this discussion. I dropped my '07 Airwolf off at my local AD on Saturday. It needs a battery replacement, and since it was only bought two years ago, hopefully a maintenance and not an overhaul. The AD said they are sending it in to Breitling for a quote, so I am anxiously awaiting that phone call. Hoping for the standard $110 for a maintenance...

I don't know you guys, but I meet 3 months ago a watchmaker in Old San Juan, Puerto
Rico. He is the 3rd generation in his family of watchmaker.

I asked him about these type of maintenance or service every 2 - 5 years, because he works with Breitling, Rolex, Tag, UN, Rado, etc. and his response to me was: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

If its working fine, keep using it and don't open it.

I like his sincerity.

Ouch. Breitling service is not cheap, and yes, Breitling will charge you the same thing any other service center will. I just got my quote today and am astounded how much it is. I'm going to post in my thread in the Help section about it.

Fvolfrine, be careful. An Airwolf is not $110 for routine maintenance. That's what I'm getting serviced. See that thread. Hopefully you're still under the warranty. I got my Airwolf serviced just at the end of my warranty, and they did the works on it, coming back looking like new, for free. This service I'm doing now is mind-blowingly expensive. But if you miss your deadline... watch out.

Having seen the effects of a watch run with no oil, I don't.

How did you persuade them to do a free service - was anything wrong?
