For the office, I have been moving away from Ralph Lauren and been buying all my shirts at Sarar. Excellent stuff.

Casual wear include various t-shirts, hoodies, and CK jeans.

Sneakers - I only have 2 pairs - Classic Adidas Samba's and Stan Smith's.

All my shoes are Johnston & Murphy.

Wow! I must be getting to be an old fart! I like anything COMFORTABLE :D
I like Lands end and most stuff from the bay (to all our non Canadian friends that is Hudsons bay company not ebay!)

Now shoes are a horse of a different colour! Classics would be Churches, Grenson, Loake and Cheany for Hand made British shoes(The Brits make the best all leather shoes in the world as far as I am concerned!) I am also a fan of the wonderful Aldens from Maine!

Tsubo and Geox for casual and Mephisto for comfortable walking.
I also have a couple of pairs of the best boots in the world(IMHO) Daytons, hand made here in Vancouver, Traditional logging and Motorcycle boots so well made they will outlast me!

i love well made clothes but can't stand overly fashionable 'heart-on-sleeve' designs. i don't want to make a statement but if one inspects closely they can see a lot of effort and (hopefully) taste.

my main crush is simple but laser cut clothing from prada sport. i could quite easily just wear many of their designs all day every day and for every occassion. this trend of simple ultra well cut and unstated clothing extends to Balenciaga, Dior, Alexander McQueen, (some) Vivienne Westwood, John Smedley (best jumpers), Jil Sander, Zegna, Helmut Lang, CP Company and Costume National. I find though that my Breitling SA doesn't really go with these clothes as much as, say, my Cartier(s).

On a casual basis its all Ralph Lauren knits and polos, Gant, Aquascutum, Nicole Fahri, Nigel Hall, Paul Smith and Hugo Boss.

Being a glasses wearer- a pair of Cartier frames always exudes sophistication but I also wear a pair of sleek TAG Heuer frames on more of a daily basis. $640 but worth it.

Belts always by Prada, Gucci, Hermes or Louis Vuitton and shoes from Tods, Kurt Geiger, Prada Sport (and Churchs when i get a little older).

My wardrobe has varied with my employment circumstances.

During the mid-90s, I was in college and dressed like a complete slob. Then again, I generally did not have two nickels/quid/Euros/pieces of currency of your choice to rub together and therefore focused on mostly covering up the parts that needed to be covered up such that I would not be arrested for public indecency. I did own a couple of 'interview' suits but they were not good quality by any means. By senior year, I was still wearing a number of articles of clothing from my high school days including a few pair of Guess and Girbaud jeans.

My first job out of college was with Arthur Andersen. I was a staff auditor and we were required to wear suits every day. As I was basically broke at the time, I mainly shopped at Macy's and wore a lot of Claiborne, Oscar De La Renta, Jones New York, etc. Shirts were mostly CK and probaby store brands. I used to spend my $$ on neckties and managed to accumulate a pretty nice collection including several by Valentino, Ike Behar, Zegna and Jhane Barnes. I also had innumerable pairs of shoes, mostly Johnston and Murphy with a couple pair of Alan Edmonds. All in all, I probably had between 10 and 15K invested in my wardrobe by the time I'd been with the firm 5 years.

I came into work one morning and the first email I saw informed me that the firm was switching to 'Business Casual'. This was early 2001 or so, right at the apex of the dot-com craze when all of the banks, law firms and accounting firms were bending over backwards to accomodate themselves to 'Silicon Valley Cool'. And so I had to spend the better part of the next three years rebuilding my wardrobe to reflect the now stringent 'no suit' business casual requirement both at Andersen and then subsequently at the investment bank I joined when I left the firm.

Now, the routine was mainly khakis (Banana Republic, mostly) with the odd pair of jeans (Diesel or Lucky) and button down shirts. I was able to keep most of my shoes but ditched a lot of my suits (I actually lost 20 lbs my first few years in banking with the breakneck pace and hours) and had to mothball the neckties.

I have since moved to a second investment bank that has managed to set the business casual bar to an all-time low, with shorts and T-shirts the norm during summers and jeans permitted all day every day. Now, my wardrobe consists primarily of:

-Several pair of Diesel and Seven jeans
-A raft of shirts from Banana Republic and Joseph Abboud. These are the only two designers that make off-the-rack shirts narrow enough to fit my frame. I'm generally too cheap to pay for custome fits.
-Lots of V-neck and half-zip sweaters from Banana and Brooks Brothers. I have about 10 of each in varying colors and mix and match these over shirts during the winter. Perfect for business casual and casual.
-Banana khakis
-The odd pair of dress slacks
-One suit, purchased at Joseph A. Bank for $299. I just don't have occasion to wear these anymore.
-Johnston and Murphy shoes, with the odd pair of Mark Nason boots and two pair of Prada loafers which I wear very selectively lest I destroy them.

As I've gotten older, my wardrobe has gotten more utilitarian and the spare change has gone towards saving for a house-and, of course, feeding ye olde Breitling addiction!

Thanks for reading the rant

Rich

Whilst I wouldn't say I'm a brand junkie when it comes to clothes, I have a preference for Tommy Hilfiger as I have some polo tops, trousers and shoes etc that I bought a good few years back whilst in New York and they are as good today as when I bought them.

Strangely enough another good 'brand' I used to buy was land Rover clothing, I don't tend to now as I don't own any of their vehicles any more, but their clothing is fantastic quality, especially when you can get it for less than half what a dealer charges!

 R&R is actually my favorite brand of jeans. The quality isnt quite up to the level of Diesel (my other favorite), but the cuts and styles are amazing. Energie is one of my favorites as far as shirts and jackets. They also make very cool belts. I also like Hugo Boss red label and G-Star tops. Once in a while I find a nice Moschino t-shirt that has some cool or funny design.
