Good day everyone, sorry my first post is a question instead of a photo, but hopefully it will come soon.

I am overseas military and contacted multiple dealers (from Breitling's website) in the US in search of a g654 Cockpit, silver dial. It has been a bit of a search since it has been discontinued. I found a dealer in Alabama who's rep stated he had one in another store and would send it off to Breitling for testing and refinishing (a month long process). The watch should be at the dealer's store in about another week.

My question: Why would a new watch need to be tested and refinished, and is this a normal process?

The dealer told me that it was new, and tried to explain that it had to be checked by Breitling before it would get to his store. I'm just a bit confused by this process if it's new.

That doesn't make sense to me either.

If it has been sitting in the store for a few years then an 'oil change' basic service is a good idea and a valuable step by the AD, but not sure what the 'refinishing' would be if the watch is brand new. I would be asking more questions before committing.

While I can't speak to the AD's exact reasoning, the Cockpit was released around 2005/2006. This could be a NOS piece with almost five years of unused age. It would be very helpful for a potential buyer to have the movement and gaskets maintained prior to purchasing the watch. The watch may have been sitting in the case for a few years now with very little chance for circulation of the lubrication in the movement. In reality, I can't imagine any AD trying to sell a pre-owned piece as new.

Alright, if it's been sitting for a while, what you say makes sense. I will ask the dealer a few more questions the next time we speak, I just wanted an outside opinion first.

Last year I bought a NOS TI Seawolf from my local AD. He found it in stock at a different AD and had it "checked out" before he sold it to me. I would not be alarmed. I would be alarmed if they didn't perform this.

Currently, I'm in Belgium, but I retire after 20 years active duty in May. Then it's on to Northern Virginia. The watch is my retirement gift to myself
