It hasn't been published yet so no reviews.

Watch and Clock Making and Repairing by W.J. Gazeley. It covers tools, equipment and materials, the principles of watch and clock movements and lot's of other stuff. My advice would be to purchase this book once you have an understanding of watch movements; it's not an introduction to watches.

Pre-ordered as it's cheap enough regardless.

Not entirely surprised, although Amazon Canada is still claiming December 21st.

Nothing yet Elwyn, it is currently making it's way to me but I am not expecting fast delivery at this time of the year. My Wristwatch Annual 2011 is coming along with it.

I will certainly PM you in regards to it once it gets here though!

I think I recommended that one to you, Tim. It covers a lot of ground, but you do need to understand how the movements work. It is not an easy first read, but it is a great little reference for the repairman.

The DeCarle books are good introductions to watch repair. The books by Henry Fried, however, are hard to surpass when it comes to working on the bench.

So, it really comes down to what level of information you expect to glean from the book.

Just received my copy of Breitling Highlights by Henning Mützliz.

Not speaking German myself, I was glad to discover that it is both in English and German, even though the German text seems more detailed.

After some history, comes the model description and some technical data for each. These include Reference number, Movement, Functions, Case description and estimated value in 2009 euros for the pictured model.

There are some historical models pictured at first with current ones coming next. Although it is very well illustrated, there is no mention whatsoever of the different versions of each model presented. Then again, the book is called Breitling Highlights.

For its price, I think this one book with plenty of info on Breitling. Although it has been made available only recently, it was finished in August 2009 (hence no Navi 01). It is the first of a series, with Omega and A. Lange & Söhne coming next.

That was my issue with this book - when the same author has books coming out in quick succession on a bunch of different brands you have to doubt the amount of new material that is going to surface.

I got a copy of Masters of Contemporary Watchmaking for Christmas - fantastic coffee table book and a really good insight into some of the current independent masters. It was a must have for me as it has the two watchmakers that I personally feel are at the pinnacle - George Daniels and Antoine Preziuso.
