So I have been looking to add a Navi in the near future, and recently found a Cosmo on another site.

http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread ... 2#poststop

My question is this.....First is 2100 a good price for this model, and second....should I hold out for the original I want or strike while the iron is hot?

This may also be a stupid question, but the description states that this is a manual wind. Does this mean that I would actually have to wind the watch before each wear, or like other automatics will movement wind with wear?

Rookie question I know, but I would think this might be somewhat of a hassle. Anyone out there to confirm or deny this thought?

Few things. First it says 2200. Secondly, its not on an original strap. Third, no B&P. Fourth, why was the watch servied? Fifth, the price I think it nothing great. Sixth, the previous five kind of turn me off. Seventh, I would always hold out for what you really really want.

Very good points.

There is an original strap included, but the seller states that it is pretty worn.

Very true on holding out to get what you really want. Why would anybody shell out Breitling money for something that only suits the wearer a bit? That being said....she is mighty pretty.

Really price is my main focus here. Two 'Lings in one season is a bit of a stretch, but if the price is right then what the hell. But as you said....the price is nothing out of the world.

Thanks for the advice. help like that is what keeps us newbies from making knee jerk decisions

Manual wind means just that - you have to wind it.

I'm not sure why you would spend $2,000+ on a watch that you don't really want. That sounds like a good starting point towards saving for the watch that you do want.

I guess I should clarify.....I really love both the Navitimer and the Cosmo, but have been able to convince myself that the Navi is more functional. The 24 hour function sort of scares me.

I think the navi is a great watch for work/play which makes this a good candidate for an everyday or primary piece. That being said....The 24 hour function sort of scares me for much past a niche watch.

Anyhow...I think I have successfully been talked off the ledge.

Any opinions on manual movements?

I read in a prior forum that this Lemania is one of the few modern manual 'lings.

Also, since the movement is discontinued, how does future service from Breitling work?

I don't think manual movements are a bad thing. I'm about to take the plunge and get my first manual movement, albeit a vintage '68 Cosmonaute.

I think given the fact that it doesn't have a date is a slight bonus for a manual as it's only really the time you have to set. With a power reserve of around 40 hours you will only really need to wind it every day and a bit if you want to keep it wound, if it stops it's not to much of an issue.

Servicing I don't think is really an issue either, Breitling will be able to service it and certainly in the case of older manual B's there are plenty of specialists around that can service these movements as they are fairly generic.

It's a lovely looking watch for sure, but just make sure it's the one you want! I can tell you now, if it was the display back model there would be a lot of us on here keeping an eye on it!

I had a newer Cosmonaute (auto) a little while ago and whilst I loved everything about it looks wise, it was just a little too small for me.

Reading the 24 hour dial is easy once you get used to it, just don't let those 2.5 minute markers throw you!!

Let us know how you get on.

I'm looking forward to getting that lovely 49mm '68 vintage one I'm buying!

Stef

The Lemania movement is one of the highest quality movements available, and to the best of my knowledge it's not discontinued - parts are still readily available for it. Just because Breitling doesn't use it doesn't mean that it's discontinued.

You have to be prepared to wind it but as soon as you do you can feel the quality - it's butter smooth.

Thanks guys. It seems to me that it manual wind might not be as big of a detraction as I originally thought.

Stef....

You said that these should be easy to service due to the number of techs. Does this mean that I would have other service options outside of sending the watch back to HQ?

I guess I was under the impression that sending the watch to Breitling was the only option for repairs and service, and I would think that if someone locally could handle service that would be a bonus.

I think there are plenty of specialists out there that can service generic movements, the only problem arises when you need a Breitling part replaced, these are not generally available outside of authorised agents.

jJust an update....

So i went ahead and made the seller a counter offer, he declined, and I promptly replied accepting the asking price.

I waited for a day for a response and got none, so I sent another message to confirm the status.

As of now the seller wants to wait till the end of the week to decide whether or not to go forward with the sale at the posted price. I guess he may be getting cold feet, but that doesnt ease my anxious nature.

Crossing my fingers and hoping to post pics by early next week

I'd back out if I were you. That puts an uneasy feeling in my stomach at least.

That is sort of what I was thinking. The watch has been for sale for sometime, and I would imagine any normal seller would be ready to get a deal done.

The reason he stated was that he didnt want too much going on with his paypal acct while he was making another purchase. That didnt make much sense to me, but who knows. To me it seems that an extra couple thousand dollars in your pocket would only make that easier....not harded.

Should I just chock it up as a loss for not getting the watch and a win for not getting ripped off?
