You guys are better of buying watches in the US and paying import duties.

I think a lot of people forget the impost duties.

here in germany it is 19 %
in Netherland: 20 %

I wrote a long and well written post about this but somehow I lost it....cliff's notes...

The price your watch sells for is exactly the price that someone else is willing to pay for it and what you are willing to sell it for

The intersection of those two curves is (typically) market equalibrium. This Datora - based on data provided above - is above that point.

The other thing the seller should keep in mind, is that the buyer wants to know they are getting a good deal, not that they are paying exactly fair market value. Consider applying some psychology in addition to your pricing calculations.

Hi,

You can not compare US to UK prices its just not a like for like market, and short of hopping on a plane you are never going to get the same prices and discounts in the UK. Its one of the things I find strange about some of the US adverts, when a seller puts CONUS on the advert, they are taking out the UK market for what would be $50 more in shipping costs, but would still be a great buyers price for us in the UK.

Still that’s another thread, back to your Datora.

To me its still on the high side, if it had been a black dial I would be offering you £2600'ish, I got my 2 year old Navi World for a similar price with an additional Breitling leather strap, private UK sale a year ago.

You sound to be putting a little too much value on what is a 5 year old watch, and if it not been serviced in that time thats a few more £'s off the value. The dealer will always have a margin he can play with, so what he is "offering" you is the price he thinks its worth plus however much of his percentage profit on the watch he is selling you, he is willing to give to you to make the deal.

Also remember that 90% of us are just window shopping, good luck with the sale and hope any prospective buyers are not reading this.

Oh and by the way, I like the way you are doing this, open and honest, cards on the table and following the rules, its a shame more people dont do that, if Roff had $10 for everytime he has to say read the rules, he would have even more great watches than the already has.

Hi Ian,
Thanks for the input.
I can't fault your logic, or in deed that of the other comments that follow yours. Looking at all the comments It would be fair to say your "suggested" pricing level would appear correct.

As for somebody reading this thread, i'm happy with that. The whole idea for me was to start a debate, find the true market value and who knows maybe even sell the watch. In truth I dont need to sell it to buy the latest attention of my focus, but I wasn't kidding when I said I struggle to read it now. Its for that reason I'd trade/sell it. I believe you should wear em, not leave em in a box because your scared of wearing them out (or your eyes as the case may be)

As for the honesty, well the only thing people remember of you is your approach to life/business. For me that has always been straight bat. Everybody who knows me understands that, ergo life is much simpler :o

One point that you brought up early is that the dealer claims that he will buy the watch from you, service it, and then sell it. You however, never claim to want to pay for the service (I wouldn't either, quite frankly) but I don't see where you are discounting your price appropriately to account for the fact that it needs a service.

Maybe that is your intent, but I didn't see it.

Anyway, it really doesn't matter, ya know? You can price the watch however you want. As stated earlier, it won't sell until a buyer also thinks that it is a good price. I see people try to sell cars in forums like this, and you can watch them lower the price every month, but since they started too high in the beginning, a monthly adjustment for age isn't moving their car. My motto is, if it ain't moving, it's too expensive. You can sit there all day and type out rationalizations for how you have priced your watch (or car) perfectly, but if no one is buying it (either the watch or the rationalizations) then it's mis-priced.

That said, it's a lovely watch and I wish you good luck.

Michael
