All,

This forum has a wealth of information and I have very much appreciated reading everyone's post to educate myself in this process. I am looking to make my very first purchase of a vintage Breitling and I am very much in need of the opinion of the experts. Specifically I am looking for a all black dial AOPA Nativtimer from 1955-1962. Could everyone be so kind to give their opinion of this one? I think it dates to 1960-1962. Thanks a ton in advance. Daniel

Looks fine to me except the hands look to have been painted given how white they are but no biggie.

Agree the hands do look very white but the owner claims both the hands and the dial have never been retouched fwiw

The luminescent material in the hands is clearly not original, so you’ll need to take the sellers claims with a bit of scepticism.

Thanks for the heads up. From a value perspective is having original untouched hands pretty essential? Would a true collector opt to swap these hands for ones that are original?

Well it is about little details and originality, for some very important and others not.
I personally would love to have it all original.
Finding those hands in original condition is a hell of a quest. But hunting is the fun of collecting right?

Good point. Any other details that anyone has an issue with?

Can't help; no expertise, just an amateur - but what a lovely watch!

Guess it all can be boiled down to 2 things.
What do you want, and how much will u pay.
Forget about finding a set of hands for it, it won’t happen.
Lume is not attractive imo.

I saw this watch listed on eBay. It sold for $6,400 and included one of the more “generous” descriptions I’ve seen in a for sale listing.

Thanks Kurt and to everyone who responded in this thread. As a newbie I now realize I have nowhere near the depth in this subject that I need to make a correct purchase. Luckily I did not buy the watch. Kurt I will be reaching out to you directly. Thanks again.
