Hi I recently purchased a 1940s Breitling Datora. I am not an expert and I want to share with you a few pics to tell me your opinion regarding originality.

interesting, as it lacks the model reference we have seen on all 785s, but the earliest 1940s were the time when Breitling started to add the model ref. on the cases in addition to the (here period correct) serial and we have seen several 765s from that number range still without refs.

movement marking (or scratching) is also correct for this short period when the US import laws required the Jewel count, adjustment and importer marking, but the manufacturers still hadn't started to add these ex works.

dial is beautiful and clearly authentic, hands are correct.

so .... even if Rene might remain on the fence, I'm quite sure it is an authentic Datora. lovely piece too.

Dear WatchFred, thank you for your feedback. Your words have given me much satisfaction, as I was worried not seeing a Breitling stamped bridge when I saw the movt. What year would you say the watch was manufactured?

no specific dating lists available pre-1944; "earliest 1940s" is as good as it gets ;)

Other than the later crown I'd be happy to have it. ;-)

Beautiful watch.

Fred, the datewheel is in French, similar to my 1945 one. My movement had no makings, did they export French market watches to the US and is possibly why the jewel count/ markings are scrawled on the movement? The dial is same as mine, guessing it doesn't have "Swiss made" inscribed at the bottom edge.
