As a fellow new owner to the Black Steel I completely agree. I had the choice last weekend of a new watch for my Birthday and when I walked in my AD I saw the Black Steel on Display, I was torn between the Black Steel and a couple of Navitimers, but time and time again I was drawn to the look of the Black Steel. I coveted one when they first came out but was not in the market for one at the time, so you can imagine how I felt seeing one on display, brand new, after they'd been out for so long.

As my wonderful wife (she bought it) pointed out, you could buy a Navitimer anytime, but as there were only about 25 of the Black Steels available to the UK, the choice was easy.

Unfortunately I don't share the same sentiments over the Diver Pro strap, I find it a little uncomfortable, so I bought a Black leather strap with the white stitching the following day and I absolutely love that combination!

Easily the heaviest Breitling I've owned but I absolutely love it!

Hi Stef,
Congratulations on the new Blacksteel! The black leather with the white stitching looks great! Were you able to use the black steel clasp that was on the Diver Pro?
It is definitely some watch. I also really like the fact that it does not draw much attention. I guess it looks pretty subdued, and people probably don't think much about it, as it doesn't have that sparkle. That is what I really like, there is a certain mystery to it. If one was not a fan of watches, especially Breitling, it would just never occur to them that it is, in fact, a very high-end object.
I am curious what the number is on your Blacksteel. Mine is 1166/2000 but I feel that Breitling must be getting to the end of production of this one.
Enjoy it!
Cheers,
Carl

Was on a cruise through Southern Caribbean, and almost all dealers I went to (Breitling Boutique, Diamonds International, Little Switzerland) had a blacksteel on hand. I ended up with #1702. :D

Someone once said to me that Breitlings are worn by people who don't care whether other people notice - an odd comment given some of the styling, but I know exactly what he meant.

Perusing some of the men's style forums, I notice an interesting thing. Although many nice watches float around on there, Breitling never seems to suffer from this stigma that plagues Panerai and Rolex (especially Rolex). That is that there is a perception about people that wear these watches, and many times, it isn't positive. Breitling seems to somehow remain a sort-of secret, in the sense that it's recognized as a nice watch, but not the type of nice watch that an a-hole would sport. This is interesting, given that generally, Breitlings are more adorned in styling than most.

Hello Steph,

I think that a custom Croco Strap black with the red stitching is better, and of course under this strap everything is red...
This strap was made by my AD in Paris, Capet. I took the original bucle in black steel. I still have the orginal diver pro strap...
With this watch and its strap I am sure to have a unique watch ever!

This is a great watch isn't it Carl. I own the Avenger Seawolf in "Blacksteel" 860/2000 and wear it everyday. I am more aware of obstacles on my left side when I wear my Breitlings and have banged the Blacksteel on a few wall corners, doors etc. after checking the watch afterward I feel sorry for the poor lug that has to repair the scratches on the things I bump into. The watch looks fine...no marks!
