Believe that 03 could be correct also.

Anything that would show that the 440a is more the correct choice over the 423a for the Old Navi II? The lettering on the 440a matches closer to the dial script vs the 423a (even though I am partial to the 423a). I understand that I should buy what I like, but the 423a is hard to find. Any thoughts on the above are appreciated.

440 is the newest model with raised wings on the safety clasp.
Not a big difference IMO.

Plus the taper is less. The 440A is 22/20mm whereas the 423A is 22/18mm. Personally, I think the wider 440A with applied ("raised") wings looks nicer with the extra 2mm width and the wings on the clasp. The end link doesn't fit quite as flush as the 423A does but it isn't a noticeable difference. Just a very slight geometry change for styling purposes I suppose. Either bracelet is a winner on the Old Nav II for certain. Good luck with the search!
Best,
Ron

Many thanks. I think I will keep on the lookout for the 423a. I would want the fitment of the end links to flush up against the case, so the 440a might not work for me. And I am thinking the 423a would look closer to the proper age bracelet for the Old Navi II.

Found one! Possible 423a incoming. A question I should have posed; did the Old Navi II come with the Old Nav/Cosmo bracelet when new if purchased with bracelet vs strap? Or would it have been the 423a? I am guessing it is strictly on year of manuf to determine which bracelet was available. It is the scripting of the lettering on the dial that throws me. It is not the same font on the dial that is on either the 440a or the 423a.

Old Nav./Cosmo was its original bracelet, 423A came later (depending on the date of production).

Understood. This watch looks like it is at least a 2002 (however I am getting that from the warranty certificate that came with it) and a serial number in the 200000 range. So my guess is that this one could have come with either the Old Nav bracelet or the 423a?

Serial number is random post 1978.

Thanks. No dating on mine that I can see on the case back, sides or interhorns. I would assume it is possibly on the inside of the case, but not sure.

You have to remove the bracelet from bottom lugs, on the case between them is a date code.

I did remove the strap (no bracelet on this one). There was no code listed on any of the lugs or case.
From the posting the Roff linked it looks like not all watches, early on, we're dated on the watch itself, unless I read that incorrectly.

Than it is older than 2002 for sure.
They started to put date codes from around '98/'99.
