Hi - can anyone help me determine which of these two "Mid-60's" Navitimers might be the oldest? Also, any other info you might be able to determine from the two photographs (I'm most curious about the one that has the red markings in the top photo). I am definitely a novice and want to make the right decision about purchasing one over the other. I would prefer purchasing the older of the two, and they are within $100 of each other on the asking price.

Many thanks for any assistance that you can offer, and I am AMAZED about the quality of info that I've already read in this forum this morning...I think I have a new hobby/addiction!!

Thank you,

Eddie

Ahhhh....my point about the red markings in the first photo is that it seems rather modern and sporty of a detail for a "Mid 60's" watch. But, again, I am a novice.

Bottom one is older, top one is more late 60s.

I wouldn't buy without photos of inside and outside of caseback and the movement though.

Serial numbers will also allow us to date them exactly, I wouldn't be hugely surprised if the bottom one originally had red on the outer sliderule, although it looks to be a Breitling ring (and I don't think that the top one is) that was replaced during servicing.

Thank you, Roffensian

Since the first one seems to have a replacement ring, I will rule it out altogether. And here are the additional photos that I have on the other one (and I don't currently have the serial number).

Thank you again,

Eddie

All looks good to me, but if you can get the serial then we can date exactly.

Just purchased the second one in the photos above (with correct ring)....it should arrive tomorrow. Looking forward to my first vintage Breitling (I currently wear a new Super Ocean Heritage from when they first came out a few years ago, but it's gonna be getting some rest now).

:lingsrock:

Thanks to everyone on the Forum who offered up excellent advice, and guiding me in my first vintage purchase.

Kind regards,

Eddie

Hi Guys - got the watch today, and it looks amazing! I did, however, want to identify exactly what year it was produced, so I took the back off to have a look at the serial number. It appears to be : 1022826 - can anyone determine the year from this (photo below)? Many thanks!

Eddie

1022826 looks like 1965.

I used this: http://www.watchestobuy.com/BreitlingSerial.htm

Wrangler - thank you very much! Others on the forum had suspected 65/66 based on the original photos.

You're welcome. I didn't see it on the web site here, but I had run across that list a while back with Google.

We have it here - viewtopic.php?f=11&t=31437

Everyone routinely used Navitimer.net, but that seems to be down at the moment. It is also in Richter's book.
