Hi everyone,

I recently started pouring over this forum as I'm looking to purchase a vintage chronograph (by the way, what an amazing and hugely helpful resource you've created). I keep coming back to this ebay listing (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Breitling-Premi ... 1c20bdd51e) and can't seem to tell if it's authentic.

If you scroll through the images on this website (http://www.horologicalservices.com/comm ... models.htm), one seems to have a similar dial (although perhaps they are both fake...)

I emailed the seller to get an image of the movement, which I've attached.

Any feedback would be hugely appreciated. I'm looking to find my first Breitling, but also looking to learn.

Matt

I like it. Roff might take issue with the bridge marking on such an early piece (a subject we have to discuss further, maybe Craig/chronodeco will comment?)

It looks broadly OK.

Mark Heist's site (Horological Services) is a good resource because he knows his stuff.

The caseback is a little different than I am used to seeing - stamps nearer the edge, but that may simply be because it is an early one. The case being steel rather than gold is a little unusual, but the case style looks correct. As Fred suggests, I don't believe that the bridge engraving is original - a blank bridge would be more appropriate. Hands look to be original as do the crown and pushers.

If the bridge engaving is not original, what would this likely mean? That the entire movement is not original to the watch? Just the bridge is not original? Difficult to tell?

It would likely mean that someone added the Breitling script to the original bridge in a misguided attempt to add value / make it look correct. It happens all the time.

Thanks Roff. I very much appreciate your input.

Got a picture of the inside of the case back. Does this help at all?

Doesn't really alter my opinion. Good to see that no one scrawled Breitling all over it though.

Ended up pulling the trigger on this one (first Breitling!). Originally listed for an outlandish $1,400. Ended up paying $965. How'd I do?

I'm a little late to update this, but below is the end product (sent it to chronodeco to get cleaned up and put an ABP croco strap on it). My wife couldn't have been happier (it was her Christmas present).

Thanks a million to Roff, Fred and Craig! You guys have been truly amazing!

very nice, a true classic. And a christmas present that shows great taste, my compliments to your wife. Writing this with a 760 on my wrist, so slightly biased.
Congrats and wear it in happiness and health

That came up very nicely (of course with Craig's hand) - and ABP make some great straps!
