Post subject:  Aerospace case back

Hello All

I recently had my Aerospace serviced by Breitling in the UK. No problem with that. The service was arranged through a local

Breitling dealer. I collected the watch and a little later I took it back to the same jeweler to have a link

taken out of the bi-colour bracelet.

When I collected the watch after an hour I was wearing a sports watch and I did not notice

until I left the shop that the case back on the Breitling had been changed.

The conversion factors were on the new back unlike the original and the back was flat and not domed.

I bought the watch new in 2004 from a different dealer elsewhere.

The jeweler who arranged the repair and removed the bracelet link buys and sells second hand Breitlings.

Can anyone tell me if Breitling ever produced the Aerospace with a flat back?

I very much regret having to ask but I am not sure which way to go to resolve this.

Best Wishes,

Redcomet

There are several Aerospace models, photos would be a big help.

The plot thickens. Breitling initially told me they had not changed the case back. Then they said they had. It was not on the servicing invoice because they had not charged me extra for it.

The movement had to be replaced because of water ingress and they had to change the back to accomodate the changed movement. They said they fitted a titanium back.

The watch thickness was 9.7 mm and is now 9.1mm. The titanium is not shiny but the back of the watch is shiny, Titanium is not magnetic but the back of the watch is magnetic.

I do not know if the present back is the one fitted by Breitling or whether the shop changed it.

I have uploaded 3 pictures of my watch present back and 1 picture of the same model from the web. My new watch back is not "domed " like the standard one, it is flat.

I told Breitling that the watch back is magnetic. They said that was because of the circuitry underneath. (pull the other one. )

I am taking it in to the shop tomorrow and I will ask them to take off the back in front of me. I will then see if the back on its own is magnetic. If it is - it isn't Titanium.

I'm afraid it's rather typical of Breitling UK service at the moment. A look at watch forums will show that BUK has lost the reputation it had until a few years ago. If the company is watching I really hope they will understand that it needs a shakeup; dealing with Rolex or Omega in the UK is so much easier and less stressful. I'm one of many who is inhibited from buying new for this reason.
