Looks like some poor soul bought it already :(

Well, in his defense, he never claimed he was selling a Breitling. Both the title and the description stated "Brietling" :)

Seen this pattern before. Fake gets listed for astronomical amount and seller buys it himself (zero feedback buyer), or has someone else with little or no feedback buy it, to show it really has value. Scammer all the way.

Sorry that this is my first post, but as someone who is currently trawling the net looking to buy a watch (including navitimers) could you give me some pointers as to what marks this particular listing as an obvious scam?

well, for starters, an incorrect model number - A23422 does not exist, and even if we say that it's a honest mistake and he meant A24322, the watch doesn't match since that should be a Navitimer World (which looks entirely different). The seller avoids also posting an image of the case back (I think I've seen it in a different attempt to sell the same watch, and it was quite lame)

I think this watch is trying to imitate a Navitimer GMT, looking at the "gold" Breitling logo and the GMT hand, but fails miserably. Simplest way to tell is to look at a picture of the real watch, the differences are numerous (biggest being incorrect subdials, wrong date wheel, wrong centering and proportions of the subdials etc)

Image vs Image

Thanks for taking the time to respond, appreciated.
I have already come across a couple that didn't feel right on investigation, so they came off my list, but even so it is always good to understand the thought processes of those more knowledgeable than myself.

Glad to be of help.
Generally, the biggest give-aways for a fake Breitling are:
- sunken date dial
- incorrect sub-dials
- shallow engravings on the case-back
- incorrect model number
- anchor on the chrono second hand is badly finished
- logo lacks detail
- crystal lacks AR coating (is very reflective)

and so on...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/232062822063 This one for example seems to have all the warning signs (Breitling spelt as Bristling, almost no description, no feedback etc), what do you think?
In any case I won't be bidding.

Whereas this one looks right to me https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272349584881

Actually, at a first glance, that one looks ok to me. Some case back photos could be more clarifying.

It seems to be the Navitimer model from 2003 to 2011 (A23322), more details can be found here:
http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_de ... er_53.html

The second one looks also ok, it's the Navitimer Heritage, more details here: http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_de ... er_58.html

Again, thanks.
With the first one it was as much what wasn't shown as what was. As they say, "buy the seller" and the description and everything about the seller was poor (particularly when you consider he is selling something for over £3k.
I did make a couple of offers for the second one, but have been outbid, and I didn't want to go any more.

Small world, I'm the person that was selling the Navitimer Heritage on ebay.co.uk and can assure you it's 100% genuine! Unfortunately when I accepted the best offer at the last moment the buyer then advised he'd changed his mind so no sale! Think I'll hang on to it because I still love it!
