Hi can someone please tell me if this is a fake:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/271014773963?ss ... 1497.l2649

I think its a prototype Breitling Antares 81970. I purchased it with the intention of purchasing all the required components and making a complete watch. I have an Antares dial already and I'm in the process of acquiring the 2892 a2 movement. Can someone please tell me if any 2892 a2 movement would work or does it have to be a Breitling B10 (2892 a2) movement only. Also if I purchase a non Breitling 2892 A2 movement will the original Breitling hands fit?

Thank you, I'm sort of new to this and I don't know much about watches.

Cheers

Well.....

The case looks real, but the watch is never going to be a real Breitling no matter what you do to it.

Case and dial are real, not sure about the rotor.

As far as I know Breitling SA never issued Antares in goldplated version , only steel with steel bezel +gold index or steel with gold bezel + steel index. Getting a correct watch by putting appropriate components together would give you a correct watch - but your project would give you a nonreally franken but not really correct watch . Seing the prices of separate components it does not look a good deal , you will exceed the price of a genuine Antares which is not a highly priced Breitling .

It would be franken / fake for me without a doubt - it was never made by Breitling.

Thanks for the reply's, I understand it won't be a "REAL" production Breitling but I just want a watch that no one else would have, it's not about the money.

In the 1990ies, when it was quite common for agents to travel with a collection to their ADs (at least in Europe!), Breitling produced a couple of replacement watches for the heavy and expensive gold pieces. They where not produced in large quantities and they have been used only for a short periode. My agent had a goldplated Chronomat at that time. I think, Breitling called them all back and took them apart. Maybe they missed one piece...

Hi all,
Just a quick update on my progress .I finished sourcing all the bits needed to finish; the biggest pain in the bum piece to find was the movement ring for the ETA 2892A2. I know many diehard Breitling lovers will criticize me for putting this Franken together but I really have fallen in love with the idea of building this watch. The day I first saw the gold plated case for sale on eBay I knew this project had to be attempted. I own seven non-Franken Breitlings (I know its a sickness!!) and now one Franken! I guess seven out of eight isn’t bad! Pictures to follow shortly!!

Cheers
