Thanks Sharkmouth, that's good to hear.

I can't believe I couldn't find the date stamp. I've always had suspicions that the watch might be a "tribute", but was never sure because there are so many subtle things to look out for. When I found out it should have a date stamp, but (seemingly) didn't, this is what tipped me over the edge and prompted me to post

Wish I'd had this debate a year ago...!

Ok just making sure! Wear it in good health. BTW I got in trouble for thinking of this during dinner out with my gf and having to put it in my notes on my iphone.
