All experts,

As I read more about the information, the more I learn for you guys.

One question I don't seem to be able to find is how to tell if a Breitling is authetic or not. Since I am about to purchase my first Breitling, I really want to be sure to buy something authentic.

Any pointer would be helpful. Many thanks in advance.

Buy it brand new from a trusted Authorized Dealer (AD) and walk home with a no worry feeling of pride!!!! OR. get some discount..used..ebay..etc. etc. and wonder.

Unfortunately Bryanp, the only way to really be able to spot fakes is to learn about the genuine watches. And I mean really learn about them. That means immersing yourself in the subject, looking at loads of pictures, handling the genuine items whenever you can, reading forums like this, getting hold of the Chronolog and becoming fully familiar with models. Unfortunately this is just one of those things that there's no short cut to. It's just experience.

Even then, there are now some incredibly accurate fakes that's can pass all but the closest scrutiny, so it's always possible to make mistakes, even with a lot of experience.

As Chance rightly said the only way to be totally sure, especially if you are new to the game, is to buy from an AD. However if you are determined to go the eBay route, post some good quality pictures on here and we'll have a look for you.

ditto, if not an AD, post them pictures and you will have exposure to over 1000 members opinions!

safety in numbers and always buy the seller, not the watch!
