what websites are the best (and worst) for buying a Navitimer World online? What are the best ways to make sure you are not dealing with fakes?

Buying online or "grey market" is usually less expensive than paying full retail, but you do not get a factory warranty so if you ever have to send the piece in for service you will be paying for it. Also I would never trust the grey market warranty, because you never know who would be working on your watch and what parts are being used etc... That vein said there are a couple forum sponsors that can help you out usually come pretty close to the grey market prices, and also come with the satisfaction of a factory warranty.

OP is asking about pre-owned so grey market isn't in play.

Secondary market is dominated by eBay so that's the best starting point, check in the replica section here before committing to make sure that it's real but the World fake is fairly easy to spot. Chrono24 is another big market, more European focused but there are some US sellers there, and of course there are the various sales sections of the forums - here, WatchUSeek, TimeZone, etc.

If you do go through eBay, you can always have the watch authenticated in the replica identification section of the forum. My first Navitimer World I bought was through eBay and I was very happy with my purchase.
