The best reissue Omega has done IMO. The original Mark II from 1969, a new Speedmaster with a streamlined case. Original Caliber 861 manually wound movement. Now houses Omega Caliber 3330 Coaxial automatic.

At the Omega Boutique, they just received the two new models. Black dial and Grey "racing" dial. Looks so much like the original:


The dial is so symmetrical, as on the original Speedy 3750.50. No element/subdial interferes with any other element. Only a very non-conspicuous date window at 6 o'clock:


Beautiful brushed case with polished contrasting bits. The bracelet is so well done, only slightly different in proportion to the original:




The date corrector/adjuster at 10 o'clock. The case looks very thick, actually only 15mm. It is not a small watch, the wrist presence is excellent, and fits the wrist almost the same as the regular Speedy 3750.50:


I think the biggest surprise for me, is the adjustable clasp that Omega has introduced on this model, inside the clasp. Without removing any links, adjustable about 10mm in increments of appx 2mm:


Normally, on a vintage reissue watch, I would like to see a hesalite/acrylic crystal. In this case, I am glad to make an exception. The ultra-flat sapphire crystal, AR coated both sides leaves virtually no distortion. It really does look as though there is no crystal in many lighting conditions:

I was stunned how beautiful a job they did with this watch. It immediately became a must-have for me. Hopefully, sooner than later I will be a proud owner!

Oh my word. The recent Speedmasters have always been just a little too bland to entice me but that is fantastic: I love the case shape, which really gives it something more aesthetically.

I thought I was content with my modest collection. Damn you Carl! [As ever, great shots - thank you.]

Out of interest, which dial did you prefer? I normally quite like bold dials but - on the basis of the photos at least - lean to the black, since it's the classic Speedy tone.

Very nice looking pieces and great photos Carl.

Designers were on fire that day.

Just one of those classics that never goes out of date. Timeless.

I'm gonna go with the black dial. I like them both, though. I know myself well enough, that if I got the one with the grey dial, I would soon be trying to flip it to get the other one!

I can't wait to see these in the brushed, satin flesh.

It's great that Omega is putting out pieces like this. I hope they sell a lot of them. I also hope somebody at Breitling would notice, and maybe consider a new Pult, or similar piece.

It is indeed frustrating to see Omega doing such great jobs as this, the recent Bullheads etc, when Breitling have so many neglected classics in their back-catalogue.

here's a '69 - and yes, another favorite shirt that has to go ....

The dial designs are interesting - would have to see them to determine how the red/gray works. Micro-adjust 'ratchet' clasp is a great feature, wish more would use this design. I'm still not big fan of that case design (seems chunky and heavy ?) and looks like the case back sticks out quite a bit.

Don't think it is my style but a nice looking dial design.

This was EXACTLY (almost word for word) what I thought when I saw this thread.

At the moment, Omega are pretty much exactly what I want Breitling to be. They embrace their heritage and are releasing some amazing recreations of historic pieces that comfortably sit alongside more modern pieces. The Ploprof, the Seamaster Bullhead, the in-house Speedmasters - all modern but sympathetic recreations of fantastic heritage pieces. But they are also not afraid to be a little more contemporary. Take the "Dark Side of the Moon" Speedmaster for example - if Breitling had made it, it would be DLC'd - ABSOLUTELY no question in my mind at all. Omega however, went the ceramic route.... and all the better it is too.

Basically Omega are in a fantastic place at the moment IMO, and I only hope Breitling have the courage and foresight to try something similar. (Fingers crossed for Baselworld!!!)
