Did you also see this among Chopard's offerings this year in Basel? The 2013 1000 Miglia has a steel bezel, whereas if I'm not mistaken it was made of ceramic last year.

Am I mistaken or does that denote effort of Chopard's to distinguish themselves from the mass of black ceramic chrono-bezels which is hitting the market at present? Or is it because they can't do a tachymeter on a ceramic bezel?

Not sure. Have you seen one up close? I can't remeber this one last year with a ceramic bezel, as I am getting a bit senile. So not really able to assess.

The rubber tyre strap is always a dead giveaway that someone ran out of ideas though. The rest looks reasonable to me, but I am not a big fan of Chopard personally. The1000 mila is OK, but just OK.

Not first on my list either... By far. But I just thought it was weird it went from ceramics to steel.

Yes, you are right, I think.

Probably as ceramic is not as scrathproof IMO as it may be claimed to be, they might have thought it better to get a more realistic finish that can be swapped out at reasonable cost on the market as well.

Perhaps buyers were not too knocked out by a dark and mysterious looking ceramic version (I assume it was black, and I can see it now in my mind). The stainless version does lift the face somewhat. It’s a bit drab in black as there is so much negative space in the watch face.

Well, that’s without seeing it. I was wrong on the TAG Carrera black a few years back. To me, it was not a memorable watch, so I can't even remember what party trick it had, but I do remember that the rubbish advert pics are nothing compared to the actual watch. It certainly looked a whole lot better in the flesh and without all the picture atmospherics, I was surprised how good it really looked. I vowed from that day on never to pass comment on a watch until I actually saw the thing. Something’s can be said though, especially concerning the design intent. You don’t need to see it in the flesh for that.

To be fair, the Dunlop rubber strap is a long time hallmark of the Milla Miglia line, not a new toss away. The watch has been around in various iterations since 1988, recognizing Chopard's sponsorship of the "thousand mile" race.

Yes, but the 2013 edition also is. They are always limited by the year, 2012 pieces in 2012, 2013 in 2013 and so on. That's just Chopard's excuse for having essentially the same watch over and over again as new in Basel.
