I have a lot of property and spend a fair amount of time in the wilds with a chainsaw - I use a $10 WalMart special - wouldn't want to be seen in public with it, but it serves a purpose.

Of course I could always upgrade to a swatch......

Actually, for watch collectors on a budget, there are some fun swatches out there...have you seen their new retrograde chrone....probably the cheapest retrograde around!

There is nothing wrong....only watch snobs dismiss quality and marketing genius on the strength of price....if its watch snobbery you want there are plenty of other fora for that. I like the fact that we here can get excited about the dearest patek or JLC (or indeed Breitling) just as much as lesser costing brands...its what makes our hobby fun!.......value takes many forms.

I admit to having many 'cheaper' watches just because they light my particular fire.......I think I will get one of the retrograde swatches just because I like it.....perhaps the gold/black leather one.

I think that's just the date indicator.

Happy to help

I can't take too much blame for a watch that's only GBP120.

Swatches are wonderful things. I've got more than 20 of them. One of my favorites is a rare, older watch called Body & Soul:

Yep, that's an ETA 2842 21 jewel automatic movement in there, viewable from both sides.

I spent 20 years wearing Swatches until I discovered the joy of Breitlings about 5 years ago. Glad to see they're not frowned upon here!

How could we possibly frown upon the brand which basically saved the mechanical watch industry in switzerland.....remember that swatch is a contraction of 'second watch' (according to mr Hyeck) ans the profits from it supported some major brands as well as turning people away from the japanese digital revolution in the early 80's.

If you choose carefully, there are some real gems to be had in the swatch collections and at the price, they are almost disposable....Every watch collector should have one or two but their real raison d'etre is to fire interest in watches as objects of desire rather than just timekeepers......which must be a good thing

Just my $0.02 worth :D

Could not agree more.

Someone can get a swatch long before Breitling would become a practical option and experience the same sense of wonder that a mechanical watch can deliver and an electric current never can.

We all know what that feels like, and how many of us will go back to Japanese?
