What are peoples views on the whole Omega Planet Ocean orange bezel thing? Is it a "timeless and yet cutting edge take on an otherwise generally staid area of design", or is it "a bit of rip-off of the green bezel Rolie Submariner 'lets do something other than black or blue bezels' concept"??

Personally (and as a green bezel Subbie owner!) I kind of think it's a bit of the latter, but I still think the PO is still a nice looking watch.

personally I think it was a very good idea. I see hundreds of watches every day, most watches selling with a white dial, black dial on second place. So I should have only white and black watches on stock. I appreciate the color spots like orange or yellow models.

When the watch was introduced 3 years ago, I was not really happy, as it reached a considerable pricerange for a colorful gimmick. But salesfigures where considerable as many customers, who already own a few watches decided to add one of them to their collection. I think, its a valuable addition to the otherwise very conservative Omega collection.

If You are bored by the orange color in a few years, You can change the aluminium part in the bezel anyways.

By the way, the orangecolored aluminium bezel of Omega where created before Rolex published their green ones, although Rolex was the first to come out with a new color. The technic of coloring aluminium is already a couple of years old.

The question about who was the original inventor of some technics is often quite difficult to decide, as ownerships and partnerships in the watch industry changed over time. And if You ask, who is copying from whom, You will soon find out, that it probably ends somewhere in the 18th century at famous watchmakers like Breguet and others.

Annodized Aluminum has definately been around for a long time.. its used in so many industries.. same as Annodized Titanium. I haven't seen any annodized Titanium watches around.. I think they should make them tho. I am thinking about getting a Seawolf and Annodizing it for fun!

I personally like the orange of the Plante Ocean, but I don't like the watch itself... many Omegas, like the PO and the Speedmasters have a very long top lug to bottom lug length, while not being very wide (well, the PO is wide too) and they have a long look on the wrist.. the PO is just too long for my wrists and the top and bottom stick out funny to me. I dont like the look. I prefer the rounder look of the regular 42mm Seamasters.

I had a black PO 42.5 mm before and it looked great on my 7.25" wrists.

I always wanted to try the orange bezel but didn't jive on my wrist. Now, having the orange arabic numerals with the black bezel, now that would look great!

Thanks for the replies guys. I do like the orange PO and very nearly bought one, but I just recently I've been thinking that the orange may date quite quickly. But that's a good idea Alien - swapping out the bezel if the orange dates.

And I agree with Roadcarver that leaving the orange arabics would look pretty cool. I think I'm back on them again!

By the way, aluminium in green: I remember a name:

J-Class.....

Available in blue, black, green and red.
