Not sure if this was posted by Roff or someone as part of the Baselworld 2010 updates, but I think this is absolutely fantastic -

http://www.******.com/blog/2010/3/22/ ... th-12.html

Firstly it's a great size for a Breguet (44mm), and I think it's an awesome looking thing too. BUT it's the movement that's the real standout. It's a 10 Hz movement, i.e. 72,000 vibrations per hour! The Zenith El Primero suddenly looks old-hat at a "mere" 36,000 vibrations per hour.

Lots of silicon technology at the heart of this bad-boy, so it's a massive leap forward in all areas of the movement. And the really great news is that it's available in steel (which is rare for high-end movement watches), and only cost around $18K USD. OK so $18K is a lot of money in anyone's book, but in a few years..... with a discount.... maybe used..... it's gonna be an absolute must have IMO.

Love it!

(PS - If he likes it, my money is on Altair being the first to own one here!  )

Does the link not work?

This is really odd. The forum "stars" out the name of the site whenever it type it it! :huh Its still there when I click edit to amend my post but as soon as I submit it, it is starred out! That is really strange. Even when I just type it here (i.e not in a URL or anything, it is still starred out when I submit it! The site i was linking to is spelt H O D I N K E E .com as one word. If you are interested in seeing the watch, type that along with Breguet Type XXII into Google and you'll see it.

That is so weird with that site name not showing on here. Its not a rude word in Canadian or something is it?!? Anyone got any ideas why it would be starred out?

I like it, a lot. Very impressive piece, and it's great to see a manufacturer taking a step forward like that in terms of technology.

Clearly Breguet (unlike some posters on certain other sites) think the big watch trend is here to stay.

They'll have to fix that bezel alignment before I'll buy one though.

No idea why that happened - question for admin me thinks.

I didn't post it as part of Basel as I didn't see it until after Basel finished.

I agree that it is an amazing watch, I'm currently compiling a list of watches to consider for my next one and this is definitely on the list (as is a JLC for the first time).

I've gone back and forth 100 times on buying a Breguet XXI. I love that watch so much!

You can pick one up for $5500 these days.. but I don't think it was ever priced at $18k USD like this new model.

The increase in size is great - which is the reason I didn't pick up the XXI.

I think the XXI is more dressy though and this now more of a sport model.

Hmmmm...Ive always liked the XXI, and I like this one as well, but it really looks too similar to the XXI to me to justify the price increase. I know the movement is really something special, but at something like a 10k premium over the XXI it seems a bit too rich for me.

The watch looks great a little to much for my pocket.. Out of most of the new watches posted earlier this is the best one in my opinion

I don't have an issue with the price - if you want the world's first commercial 10 Hz watch then you have to expect to pay for it.

The only bit that bugs me is the 6 o'clock subdial. As I understand it it's not a chrono hours counter, but a second time zone. Fair enough, but the 3 o'clock subdial is a 24 hour second timezone, so why the 6 o'clock one???? Chrono hours would make much more sense.

I don't have an issue with it being priced as it is either as it's pretty revolutionary : it's just that unfortunately I can't afford it!

Granted it's not hugely practical from a timing perspective, and I guess that is a little odd, but then I quite like movements that are a little bit different. If I had the cash, I'd definitely pick one up just for that 10Hz movement.

If I recall, wasn't it Chopard that actually had the 10hz first? Someone mentioned it before on another thread... Or I'm missing something here...

Chopard have been experimenting with it - Breguet are first to get it to production.
