It's all very pretty etc. and I admire the workmanship and all that, but it's more than a little sad that these things are completely useless and do nothing to increase the accuracy of the watch - as they were originally intended. The fact is that with current state-of-the-art movements, a tourbillon is simply another complication.

The three barrel spring system in the in-house Panerai movements (P.2002 for example) are actually (technologically speaking) far more complicated to manufacture - and are actually useful (I think!!)

Nice video tho....

Take your point but if accuracy is the goal, then a throwaway quartz is probably just as good as a $100,000 tourbillion, its just that I could never get bored of watching the gyro tourbillion....guess thats why I Bought a relatively 'innaccurate' mechanical watch....its the 'god is in the details' factor like fine art or sculpture., after all, photos are more accurate than paintings but hey, I guess I'm preaching to the converted on this forum

Don't get me wrong - I love all things mechanical, believe me (The tourbillon in the P.2005 Panerai movement is exquisite) and I don't own a quartz watch (now!) - Actually, I do own a Longines quartz but I don't wear it) I certainly wouldn't consider buying one.

This is one of the nice things about display backs - you actually get to see the motor!
