Do you use them? If so, what makes a $300 watch winder so much more valuable than a $50 version?

It's just preference, usually a $300 winder is made out of expensive material, mahogany, dark oak, and other various expensive woods. The $50 one is usually just made out of cheap plastic. Not to mention the motors in a $300 one would probably last longer since it is made better, than a cheaper $50 one.

PS - I don't own a winder; if the watch just stops I just correct it again. It's a pain in the ass with my MBO since it's a four year leap year / semi perpetual calendar and I have to set each pusher individually. But, the others it's just date and time I have to set.

From what I know, the more expensive ones have programmable options as far as rotations and turns per day. The cheap models generally only have one setting or limited settings.

Also, the cheap ones use plastic motors and gears where the more expensive ones use metal motors and gears.

As the previous posted mentioned, the more expensive one should last mush longer. :)

Why buy a Breitling when you can buy a Seiko :?:

It's a bit like buying anything really - for 300$ you can buy 6 fifty dollar ones - so in terms of longevity and construction etc. it has to be down to personal choice.

I bought a couple of 'cheap' (well, 120€ here) Eilux winders - they turn in both directions (selectable), are totally silent, and run on a D cell for more than a year - frankly can't see the point in 'investing' more in something which sits hidden away in a cupboard saving me the effort of winding up two watches.

My 2 cents...
