Post subject:  IWC Spitfire Chrono Automatic

I've been looking around quite at bit at different AD's (as any good watch fanatic should!) and I think my next purchase I'm considering the IWC Spitfire Chrono Automatic. Other than the info from the AD and IWC catalogs, website, etc. I don't know much about the movement and most importantly, what owners think of it.

Thanks!

The Spitfire uses a base Valjoux 7750 movement... which is very reliable. Its a nice looking watch, but really expensive for what you get methinks.

One of my mates (a real City-Boy from London!) has a Spitfire Chrono. It's a very nicely made watch and the bracelet is lovely thing. As Admin says it's a lot of money for what it is, but it's certainly a nice piece. And you never see too many IWC's around.

If I were to buy an IWC then it would most likely be a Spitfire Chrono, but for the reasons stated, I don't think I ever would.

It's a nice watch, but there are a lot of nice watches out there that are more value for money IMHO

So the watch isn't worth 3500ish? Would the IWC name be carying most of the price tag here? I actually would get it on a strap with a deployment buckle, which knocks a grand of the pricetag.

I have 3 lings and i want the next watch to be something different. I was also thinking of a Rolex Submariner (SS/green bezel). Is that more with the money than the Spitfire.

Thanks for the input.

Scarlet Evolution,

I recently sold my 50th Anniversary Submariner with the green bezel as basically I didn't think it was worth the money. I posted a couple of threads elsewhere on here so I won't go into it all again, but basically the bracelet and clasp on the Submariner just aren't up to what I'd expect on a £3000+ watch.

My advice would be to wait until the new Submariner comes out (ALLEGEDLY some time next year) or if you can't wait that long, go for the new and rather fantastic GMT Master IIc, as this watch sorts out every single issue that I had with my Submariner. Alternatively I'd say get the IWC. Yes it's a little expensive for what it is, but then we all know that tends to be the case to varying degrees with all luxury watches anyway. The IWC is more rare on the streets, and more of a draw to watch fans anyway.
