Personally the Seadweller 4000 really made me laugh. I'm not saying it's a bad watch - far from it in fact - it's just that when I saw the title I think I was expecting something slightly more........ errr... revolutionary! (Or even just evolutionary!)! Ceramic bezel aside, it's surely all but identical to the pre-DSSD Seadweller?

I think there's a happy medium between completely disregarding everything that's gone before at one end of the spectrum (i.e. kind of like Breitling in recent years), and not evolving AT ALL at the other..... and I think Rolex has cornered that particular market with this piece!

The progress of Rolex continues to move forward at tectonic plate speed!! If nature had evolved at the same pace, we'd all still be single-celled amoeba living in a puddle!

That said, it IS a nice watch, albeit a bit too small for me, but nothing to get my juices flowing.

Some fantastic watches this year! Sadly, not from Breitling (so far)…

Hmmm, Sea-Dweller 4000 or Seamaster 300 master co-axial?!

I think that new Omega Seamaster300 is so ugly. Some things need to be left in the past and that's one of them. This is the first time in a long time that I think Omega struck out at Basel, hopefully tomorrow brings some better releases from them.

Whoa, can't agree with that. To me it looks like yet another example where Omega strike that happy medium between needlessly whacky departures from old favourites (Breitling) and stale reiterations of the same designs (Rolex).

One thing I do like from Omega is the different dial option for the Dark Side of the Moon.

The light side of the moon they are calling it. Ceramic case with a platinum dial apparently.

I saw that but I think the DSOM is perfect as is, gosh that thing is just beautiful. The light side of the moon is cool but the all black is just bad@$$.

Stale reiterations of the same designs haha that's just funny. Who else is making a bi-color ceramic bezel? I haven't seen too many blue/red ceramic bezels out there. The new SD is vastly improved from the previous model and will be wildly successful. Omega, being my second favorite watch brand, has done nothing of interest today. These watch companies that revive their ancient models are not my cup of tea, JLC recently did it and I thought they looked silly as well.

I'm not feeling the "Light Side of the Moon" at all.........which is odd considering that I think the "Dark Side of the Moon" is absolutely fantastic. Maybe it's because the DSotM is so spot-on any other variant would always be slightly ho-hum in comparison.

I have to say, I do agree with TomP on the Rolex-front. That two-tone ceramic bezel aside, which IS a superb technical achievement (although it still looks exactly like the old model), I think the "new" models show absolutely zero progress in terms of design. That Milgauss for example - I don't think I could point out a single difference between it and the old model.

I'm not saying they're not good watches, because they most definitely are (I've owned one myself and the fit and finish was impeccable) : I just think that design-wise there's nothing there to show that the Rolex designers have been up late at night agonising over the drawing board this year. I know that part of Rolex's appeal to many people is their consistency, and I know many die-hard Rolex fans hated it, but to me, the Deepsea was the best thing Rolex developed in years. It retained the underlying Rolex DNA, but was a completely new size, with completely new technical abilities in terms of depth rating, and that to me showed progression while still keeping one-eye FIRMLY on history. These "new" ones show none of that type of thinking IMO - they're all very inoffensive (except that disgusting diamond encrusted Daytona!), but also a bit ordinary and "seen it all before".

Gotta agree Sergio. Disappointed in this one. So far I like the Chronomat Airborne, and the Pepsi bezel on the GMT. But that's gotten be SS for my interest.

I agree with all your points Don. The Airborne looks quite nice and I really like the cream color lume. I even like the name Airborne, it will help me get over my sickness of looking at the superoceans. I want to see the new chronomat in person.

The Pepsi dial is beautiful but in WG?? Disappointed with that but I understand why they did it especially with the BLNR just released last year.

Last year Omega killed it at Basel with the PO GMT, DSOM, and beautiful bullheads just to name a few. And this year??? Ugh.
