I've had several unspecial watches over the years such as Swatch, Festina, Citizen, Pulsar and Sector. Every one of them was my favorite watch - until I bought the next one. Then I got the Tissot Sea-Touch from my wife and finally got the first and only (so far) "real" watch: A Breitling Superocean Chrono II. And this one, of course, is my favorite one :D

Some nice watches and I especially like the stories. Here's how mine went - The "nicest" watch I ever owned was a simple 3 hand Luminox! I bought a rep Steelfish for $300 bucks to see if I liked it. (No secret there as I mentioned this in my very first post on BS, and you guys were rather forgiving and welcoming). I resolved to get a real one and called the nearest Breitling AD - they had SIX in stock! The next day I headed to the AD with a pocket full of hundreds only to be told some ###hole had bought all six that morning as Christmas presents for some employees (where do you find that job?). I let them talk me into an Avenger Skyland, but after a day I knew it was too large, brought it back and got the blue dial CSO + store credit. That store credit came to haunt me as it meant I "needed" to buy another watch. Thus began what Roff described over dinner last November as "a rather public mid-life crisis." Though he intended it as a truthful, but good nature jab, I took it as a compliment since his first words on meeting me were, "Man you are OLD." :poke:

A white and then a black CSO followed. A Cockpit. White, blue and black Fishies. The first watch I sold, a member here bought it, was the blue dial CSO. It was mesmerizing. Unlike my virginity, I wish I still had it.

My favorite watch is my first Breitling. My first real watch. Easy.
Growing up my family was fine but we did not have money for luxury items. My Dad worked hard and made enough to put my brother and I through college. Those were his priorities, and I thank him for it every time we talk. When I decided to go to medical school there were a lot of people who were of substantially greater means than I. I vividly remember one of the guys in my class got Breitling (what I now know to be a Chronomat) for his 25th birthday (he was younger than most of us). It was the most ruggedly beautiful thing I had ever seen. That became my own brass ring. I mentioned it in passing to my then fiancee, now wife, expressing my admiration of it.
Med school came and went, residency came and went as did fellowship. I finally became a "real doctor" according to my wife, which translates into done with training and making enough money that we no longer had to grocery shop with coupons. The Breitling lust living silently in the deep corners of my mind, all but forgotten.
On my 35th birthday, the first after getting a "real job" my wife surprised me (and, as a rule, she is terrible with gifts and even worse with surprises) with my brass ring.

She is not a daily driver by any stretch. But she is my first and the spark that lit the fire that still burns brightly. Perhaps even more than that she is the greatest gift I have ever received, and it showed me that even 10 years later my wife remembers fine details of things I say in passing.

All future conversations have had a lawyer present.

I know that orange when I see it. Beverly Hills Boutique LE isn't it? That's a damn shame. In the same spirit, probably I kind of regret letting this one go.

Great story and a beautiful Evo. My favorite dial combo, though I had a black one.

Pretty much anything over 46mms I didn't have. That sums it up.

Portuguese Chrono 3714-01. To my eye it's the most beautiful watch I've ever seen.

My Breitling Montbrillant 1903.

I was drawn to Breitling from an early age. A time when I had just started to really appreciate fine timepieces. From the very start I loved the brand, the marketing (watches for Pilot's) and most importantly at the time, the iconic look of the Navitimer, and that hasn't changed throughout the years. The 1903 was my first step into the luxury world of timepieces, and this forum in fact, and I couldn't be happier. I can't imagine this piece ever not being my favorite.

Still can't believe you haven't sold it to me :D . Great to see pics again Tim!
