I looked into the GPS watches, but the battery life seems to be an issue. I like to spend all day in the woods and don't really want to depend on my watch crapping out on me. I use my entry point as a waypoint and follow back using a compass, unless its woods I've been in before.

Well I decided to go with the Blackbird for my opening hunt this year. I realize now like pretty much everything else I was over thinking it.

+1. My ProTrek has been mountain biking (including unplanned and ugly non-standard dismounts), backpacking (with rain/sleet/snow, temperature swings, high altitude, etc.) and survived the shocks of many thousands of rounds fired at the shooting range - and it keeps on ticking (or whatever a quartz watch really does).

Thanks. It's APHD. It blends nicely for early or late season hunts where I live.

For the woods and work or anything play time like that I wear a Luminox Black Out Chrono. For $300 you can't beat it. Reliable and luminous. Only thing I hate is its a battery watch but I've gotten 5-6years on battery before sending her in to get another

I know it's no high end but it's well worth it
