Thanks, breitlingsource.

I like the mecaquartz ok, I'd rather use an automatic watch but now these two IWC's happened to pass my way at a fair price. They are nice looking, but doesn't have the same "feeling" as my automatic ones.

My current collection stands at 63 wearers  And they all take their turn in being worn, (some a little more often than others   )

8 are pocket watches

55 are wristwatches, of which.................

20 are automatics

22 are manual winds

10 are quartz - 2 of which are eco drives

3 are tuning forks

And then there's the clocks.......... no....... don't mention the clocks

Oh, and my wife, Lynn, has 38 wristwatches - guess this addiction runs in the family

Peter, I see on the introductions that you are retired - does that rule out the possibility of you adopting me?

Oh I could for sure - I havea real problem parting with things so can easily see my collection growing to a sizeable extent as finances allow. Unfortunately it sounds as though Peter is looking to adopt someone like Mark or watchmakeress who can repair his collection for him.

I have the same problem parting with things too.........

Here's a 1970's Ingersoll Ladies Quartz Digital which I picked up at a local car boot sale for the princely sum of 50p as the vendor said it "probably only needs a new battery".

It was in virtually NOS condition, so worth the risk.

Image

Of course, when I had a new battery fitted it didn't work.

But never one to just throw something away I opened it up, took the circuit board out and found this................

Image

a disconnected wire sticking out of the coil to the upper left of the picture. But where did it come from?

Turning the module round we find

Image

two contacts immediately below the coil. The one on the right looks to have a wire going under and into the coil. But the left contact has solder, but no wire. looks like it could well go there, lets get the soldering iron out and try shall we............................

Soldered it into place, fitted the module back into its holder, then into the case with a new battery and............ hey presto

Image

We have another working watch, brought back from the dead.

Lynn was very pleased to add it to her collection. :)

Now if only I could do that with some of the mechanical movements I have lying around
