What does anyone think of the Omega Speedmaster 50th Anniversary SS watch?? They're a LE of about 6000, and list around $4000.00. Do you think they have any ""collectable" potential?

Eventually. Just like the 50th Anniversary Submariner. The market is flooded with that piece now. I wouldn't pay extra for it.

Not only would I not pay list for it, I would pick up a pre-owned one for 1/2 price. It may be collectable at some point in the future, but Omegas depreciate pretty quickly and most ADs will give a good discount (30% off MSRP). I have two Omegas currently, and a third on the way to me now, they are good watches in general but if you are looking for an investment, pick a mutual fund.

Absolutely. When I bought my 50th Submariner, the list in this country was £3060. A few months prior to that they were selling second hand for a minimum of £3500. By the time I came to sell mine, the bottom had dropped out of the prices and second hand ones are worth about £2500. I actually good quite a good price for mine, but the guy actually said "it's almost worth swapping the green bezel for a black one as they are going for more"!

From that experence I don't think I'll ever look at any watch as an investment per se. If they happen to be worth more after a couple of years, then that's fine, but personally I just buy watches because I like them and not for their possible future value.

There are two watches of that type:
31130423001001 (Austrian retail € 3130,-) standard Speedmaster movement (861 I believe) with a golden Seahorse on the dial. Limited edition of 5957 pcs. The model is nearly sold out with ADs, I have told my agent, I would take any piece, they can offer me, but none are comming at the moment. (I sold all five, I have received so far within a week of receiving them)

31133425001001 (Austrian retail € 7630,-) only manual wind coaxial movement, no special dial (from the front there is no difference to the 3572.50), limited edition of 1957 pcs. Comes with a gigantic box with all kind of tools and replacementstraps. I have received 1 pcs (number 39), nobody ever asked for it, its hardly sellable. Its on my list of watches, that have to be exchanged....

Me too, I only buy watches I like. I was contemplating buying one for my son who likes the whole NASA thing. I thought it might be a nice way for him to start his watch collection. But it would be a shame to buy a watch which would be worth 50% of list in a few years.
