When the new "blue-eye black" Navi was introduced at Baselworld, it was love at first sight for me. The official name of this one is the "Navitimer 01 Blue Edition" -- and it is a limited edition of 1,000 pieces. As a limited edition, it has a display case back, which is a great bonus.

As with many Breitling dials, this one changes with the light. In contrast to the renderings that were part of the initial Baselworld press release for this watch, the color scheme is actually much more subtle, and, in my opinion, more beautiful. In direct sunlight, the sub-dials tend to pop more -- but, in general, the blue outer ring of the slide rule and the blue sub-dials tend to emerge from the background of the black dial in a very organic and pleasing way.

This one came on the Navitimer bracelet, which complements the dial nicely. I also tried it out with a black military strap that I already had on hand -- the deployant version that originally was issued with the Chronomat Airborne. With no contrast stitching, there's something really pure that I like about the look.

Here are some photos, taken in different kinds of light to give a sense of the different personalities of the dial...

I must say...your photos totally changed my view towards this piece. With yr photos I see your point of how it changes with light in a subtle way. In fact now I even feel that this version is more versatile than the standard version. If I had not gotten the navi 01 46 I would have seriously considered this. Congrats on yr acquisition!

Many thanks, guys -- much appreciated.

Thought I'd add one more photo. This one is taken in the shade...

Thanks for the photos and congratulations on the purchased. I'm surprised that it's available so quickly after Basel.
I think the watch looks much better on the strap.

Breitling should stay away from renderings - the pics shown when the watch was virtually presented were hideous, but "in the metal" it is a beautiful piece; congratulations, Jim!

I absolutely agree, and this is so often the case. In this day and age it's amazing that they (and other companies) keep issuing images which do so little justice to the product.

As with the 1915, the graphic rendition is incomparable to an actual photograph!

Originally I wrote off the blue/black navi but now I like it!

A beauty. If this watch would be 40 mm it surely would come home with me... unfortunately a bit too large for me :(
