Well I don't remember the 50s, but for the 60s it still amazes me that any 6 year old kid could walk into a hobby shop and get a full model rocket. I had the "Big Bertha" which made several successful flights until the chute caught fire while deploying. It landed on a roof, and the entire rocket went up. A couple garden hoses and some anxious moments later, we were fine. Today, I'd likely be in the juvenile system. |
