I forgot to mention what the Chronomat replaced...30 years of loyal service - it looks positively tiny in comparison!

The blue looks great, sportback. I had considered the blue as well, but ultimately, I like the white face a bit more.

I'm moving house soon, and most evenings it's painting or wallpapering - no surprise that I'm still wearing the Submariner...

Something that I've never really been able to understand about Rolex - why in heavens name did they fit the earlier Submariners with plastic glasses (?!) ? I've changed this one at least 4 times due to scratching etc. I even chipped a huge chunk out of it once (but then I was mixing concrete!) It would seem logical to fit a watch with a real glass no?

Needless to say I won't be wearing the B when I next lay foundations...

Acrylic Crystals were really popular back in the day... it has some good features such as the ability to polish it yourself.. as long as you didn't chip a big chunk out of it you can polish it with a polishing compound such as Polywatch. A lot of people use various different polishing pastes such as autosol. Polywatch will make the crystal pretty much eye-clear.

It's funny really - I don't consider myself a collector (of anything, apart from speeding tickets...) but I seem to have an incredible capacity to hoard, probably inherited from my father.

I just can't get rid of anything I've had (and respected) for whatever the reason it has been changed. In this 'numeric' age, I've still got 24x36 cameras going back to 1933! I just can't bring myself to get rid of them.

Is there anyone else out there like this?!

Yep, that's me too! I still play records on my Dual 701 record player. I prefer this much better than CDs. Purely sentimental I guess, just like mechanical watches vs. quartz.

However, I sold my 16613 two tone Blue Sub to purchase my Chronomat Evolution. I don't know if it was a mistake but I enjoy my Chronomat better. It's still is a diver's watch IMO in a way that it also has the same 300m/ 1000 ft water resistance as the Sub.
