Post subject:  Question on another small Breitling chronograph

I recently acquired another 32mm-ish Breitling chrono, this one a bit earlier - 1930s I believe. It’s not running but was fairly cheap (off eBay), so hopefully I didn’t do too bad. My research tells me it should be a Venus 170 movement, dates to the 1930s or early 1940s, and the non-marked case back and movement should be okay for the era.

That said, I’m no Breitling expert. Does anything look amiss?

If not, any recommendations for a good, sourceable crown replacement? Are movement parts available for these?

For reference, here’s my post for my first one (side by side included below): viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65938

Thanks in advance!

You do find some interesting ones to discuss!

Not sure I’ve ever seen a 7 jewel count Breitling before that wasn’t a stopwatch. You’d expect a proper 17 jewel movement. 7 is pretty low grade movement. Also no serial number. Dial looks good. Alarm bells for me.

Thanks for the reply!

Would you expect the serial number on the case back similar to my other one?

Does it seem to be a Venus 170 movement at least? It seems they made 7 and 17 jewel variants, so maybe parts of the movement were swapped? If the case is no good then I suppose the dial was swapped.

I paid $400 and can still return it if desired. Probably not worth it for a dial, although its even nicer than in the pictures.

Yes, you expect a serial number.

Does the up/down Venus 170 have a serial number inside the caseback? Because I think the dial is good.

That’s the caseback pictured above - no it does not.

Ah then sadly not correct as Dave indicated.
