Lots of posters I notice ask for opinions after they have parted with cash. I am very happy to have found you helpful bunch before I've made the leap. I am interested in a watch that seems to be an early 810 in pretty nice condition but it doesn't have a model number or serial number on the case. Any thoughts or worries? Thanks chaps |

Mark 1.1 810. Serial number inside the case, although I think i would have expected a model number on the exterior.... Probably fine though. |

these do polish off easily on the Mk1s, Dave - and the case has been heavily polished. |

Thank you sirs for your opinions. Over polished we think? So the 810 that was potentially previously there on the back is/was a shallow engraving in contrast to the other marks on the back and so has been polished out over time. Would this be grounds to avoid do you think? This purchase is primarily a 40th birthday gift for someone very special but it would be reassuring to think that there was a secure value. I am looking for the best I can find of the top time with 178 movement. I'm flexible on which variant. If you wouldn't mind, I'm going to put up a few photos of three options for your opinions. First a couple more of the suspected over-polished mk1 |

finally.. and i'm guessing that you'll think that this too may have been a bit too long on the polishing wheel.. as its a gift for a birthday my window is finite. don't have the luxury of waiting for the perfect one to come along. Thanks |

The 810 you first presented clearly has a polished case as Fred noted, as the lugs are rounded. Both the second mark 2 810 and the 2002 look to be nice specimens with the 2002 having slightly better preserved lume. The 2002 has a replacement crown ( no biggie, could get a replacement but would take some time, which you may not have) In choosing between the two, note the 2002 is smaller at 36mm and the 810 is 38mm. The 810 also sells for 2x what a 2002 does. Both are lovely watches. Bit less strap selection with the 2002 as the lugs are 19mm. 810 is 18mm I think. I don’t see evidence of polishing in the second 810, and if it has it is minor and does not detract IMO. Both great choices. They're not so common so amazing that you were able to come up with such nice options! |

agree w/ Dave on all; second 810 is actually very nice - if you want to go with the Mk2 case, I generally prefer the elegance of the earlier Mk1. all three lovely pieces. |
