Hi Everyone,

First time posting here... I picked up a 18K Top Time 2004 a while back. After receiving it I realized that I probably got a franken with a dial from one of the square models. I was bummed, but I wasn't 100% sure, and I really liked it so I hung on to it. I figured I may acquire a correct dial sometime in the future.

One reason I kept a glimmer of hope for it being correct is that I could hardly find any other 2004s to which I could compare mine. Until a recent eBay post, that is... Optimistic price, IMO, but it's exactly like mine. Given how rare 2004s seem to be, I wondered what the odds are that there would two that are identical. What do the experts say? Link below and image attached... Thanks for looking!

yes, they are very rare & Breitling did use "non-standard" combinations for some of their gold case pieces in the 50s and 60s when production quantities for this type dwindled.

so I'd share your "glimmer of hope", this could well have been done ex works when they ran out of the original dial/rings in the late 60s and thought the exe 2 wide index/hands weren't a good design fit.

impossible to prove, of course - but might well have happened.

Thanks for the replies. Good to hear that you share my glimmer of hope, WatchFred.

saabreit, thanks for the link to the collectors' guide. I checked it out a while back, and I think one of the 2004s is my watch! That's one reason why I was excited to find the eBay posting. It's the first time I saw one exactly like mine, other than my own. It's so rarely for sale that it will probably take a while before I see another one like mine... hopefully sometime soon.
