Does any know the answer to the above question?

I have a 1940's Brietling Tricompax with what looks like a Venus 178 movement. Everything looks original, but the movement bridge and outer case back are signed 'Turnheim, while the dial says Brietling. Was Turnheim a company/factory that supplied Breitling during this period?

Would be grateful for any insights on this.

Regards,
clk5002010

Don't recognise Turnheim off the top of my head, and don't have reference here, but if the movement is marked differently from the dial then teh watch is franken at best and fake at worse, not a genuine Breitling.

Can you post pictures?

Turnheim case, Turnheim movement, dial made yesterday with a horrible attempt at a Breitling logo. Very fake I'm afraid.

Yes it is a Landeron movement indeed, I've just heard back from my specialist as well who told me that Breitling did occasionally use Landeron movement of this calibre, and that Turnheim manufactured for Breitling for a brief period of time in the 1940s, so he thinks this is original. Any thoughs on this?

bringing the thread up again, as I would really like to hear from the OP who the expert is that claims this watch is authentic. OP also listed a watch for sale on WUS in April, a Montbrillant "from 1935 to 1939", claiming that BUK had confirmed it was authentic.

If that expert has records of this period, including documentation about the use of Landeron (the Turnheim cooperation seems very illogical) this would be most interesting.

Just to clarify: not being ironic, I actually think that Landeron tricompax WERE used by Breitling in the late 1930s, Craig is currently servicing a watch for me that might be such an example - will sure lead to interesting discussions here

here is a link to the WUS listing mentioned above. http://forums.watchuseek.com/f130/breit ... 81620.html

These watches were also listed on ebay several times and under different seller names, always claiming BUK authentification - so I do want to emphasize that I would not want to be quoted in one of your sales listings.

There was some documentation posted a couple of years back that seemed to suggest that a very early (and likely limited) Landeron relationship existed, although of course we also know that there are a lot more Landeron powered fakes frankens than real.

Doesn't change my perception of this watch at all, but would certainly be interesting to learn more about the OP's expert.

I don't know how my previous Montbrillant posting is relevant to this discussion, but since it keeps getting brought up I am happy to address the questions.

Regarding what I included in my description for the Montbrillant listing, I did consult with Breitling UK as to the provenance of the watch, who in turn contacted Breitling Switzerland and got their Swiss specialist to examine the watch. I also had estimates from two large auction houses on the value of the watch, so that's how I set the price at 2750 GBP. I have since sold the watch to a reputable vintage watch dealer, and passed along my above mentioned personal communications as proof of its provenance and value.

If you're enquiring about the Montbrillant with a view to buying it, I'm happy to ask the dealer who purchased it if he wishes to sell it currently, and if so, private message you with his name and details. You can then ask him about the contents of my personal communications, if he wishes to share it (which I'm sure he will with a potential buyer), since I don't think it would be right for me to divulge details about a particular watch which is no longer in my possession, and since my buyer had asked me for it during the sale I regard that information part of the sales agreement between me and him.
