Who cares about the dial, the movement has an Alpina / Straub / Harvel / Rensie export code.

Thanks Roff, guessing you mean since the export code is EOP, is for some other watch brand and so that v72c movement is not originally from the 785? Should this watch's movement have the BOW code or no code?

Its not a breitling movement and the Breitling script on the dial seems off as well , this one has breaks between several letters where the originals have a fluent script without breaks

probably no code or at least a breitling code

If you mean scary because it's good - not really.

Dial logo is wrong, black day / month wheels seem highly unlikely, bridge and dial logos are inconsistent with one another, there's no attempt to hide the non Breitling export code.

Thanks Roff, true the dial did look shady on first glance. I meant was scary that they managed to fit in a movement from another watch. Btw a question, I do know parts liek dials, hands etc are hard to come by but what about movements for vintage Breitlings like these 785's, are they in short supply or easily available?

its a Valjoux 72c movement
used by lots of Mfg's
just a short search on google turned up many different manufactures

aside from wakmann, zenith, rolex, breitling, heuer, leonidas etc I believe the most used movement for a datora style watch is a Valjoux 72c

have a look

Thanks Dracha, I meant to ask if the correct period correct movements are easily available? For example how difficult would it have been to find a spare v72c movement that was period correct and had the correct Breitling bridge/movement markings?

Honestly I think its nearly impossible I thing to find a complete movement , and I dont recall seeing one , for example, on Ebay
finding the parts (bridge etc) with the Breitling markings could be easier, but Ive not looked into that closely so they may be as rare as a complete movement ?

But I am convinced a qualified 'fine mechanic' or watchmaker can be persuaded to put markings on a non marked movement

And it's entirely possible that someone will use a balance cock with someone else's export code on it to repair an otherwise original Breitling movement. A 72c (or any other period movement) is not particularly rare, but complete movements don't survive for two main reasons:

1) It's unlikely that a watch gets trashed without also trashing the movement
2) People are looking for parts to repair their own pieces and will turn a movement into a donor - it's easier than trying to find a parts supply house that can supply the correct part (and avoids battling Bestfit to find part numbers)

Thanks Dracha and Roff. True too many things that can be done to fake engravings et al too so is nearly impossible for the novice eye to judge a genuine movement. Is hard enough to tell a genuine dial but telling if is a genuine movement is even tougher:).
