Is this Navitimer real or fake, I was thinking of bidding on it.

Thanks, Ralph

Dear Watchfred

Please clarify the watch back engraving and why it scared you off.

Rick, sorry, confused this with another 806 crovon had asked about (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ws/eBayISAPI ... 8734440253), this one is perfectly fine & will restore well, very minor issues.
if you bought this, forgive the error & congrats, it is a very nice watch.

Hi Watchfred

I won the 2nd chance offer. I will probably take the watch to Northeast Jewelers in Albany NY for service and to see if the can get a new crystal there. They are a breitling AD and have watch maker who I believe is the owner who has serviced my breitlings and my wifes Rolex. I have always been happy with their service. The watch appears to be very clean. Do you have any suggestions on service and what would be an appropriate band.

Thanks, Rick

Modern Breitling is a different company than the one that produced this piece and you can do better than taking it to an AD.

Contact member chronodeco (Craig) and he should be able to help you out.

Congrats, Rick/Ralph (slightly confused because some of your post are signed Ralph, some Rick) !

Let me give you some advice regarding servicing and repairs, though.

An AD for current Breitlings will most probably not be your best choice; there is absolutely no connection between the "modern" Breitling corporation and the one who manufactured your watch, neither does Breitling have spare parts for these vintage pieces; we sometimes hear outrageous prices charged for vintage parts (a crystal for the 806 is a very minor investment, they are still manufactured and widely available, Sternkreuz M, get a 38.5 and a 38.4 mm to find the perfect fit, both together will be well below $40).

If you are planning for this piece to be a daily/weekly/monthly wearer and not just put it in a drawer or on display, you should have it serviced.

As Roff has said my (and many other memberĀ“s) choice is clearly member chronodeco, I send my watches around half the globe to have only him touch them, you are much, much closer to him. The quality of his work is outstanding and the pricing is very, very fair; if you are used to servicing costs for modern pieces you would probably be pleasantly surprised and he has quite good access to vintage spare parts.

Regarding "appropriate" straps, there are some offered on ebay by billshaine that are quite close to the original black lizard straps, though my clear choice for these "rolled gold" 806s is a brown or gold OEM croc !
