Post subject:  Deployant/Folding clasp question.

I sometimes have to adjust my watch strap a couple of times a week. My question is ......
1. How adjustable is the deployant clasp, a tang type is adjustable by about 1/4 inch increments?
2. How easy is it to adjust?
I'm about to purchase a Navitimer 46mm with Croc strap so any advice would be most helpful.
Thanks.

Infinitely adjustable in about 5 seconds - it's just a friction fit, but......

It does tend to find a natural position where the deployant compresses the strap (because of the friction fit) so over time it may slip back to hte 'main' position if you are only making small adjustments.

Thanks for your advice. The folding clasp is, as you know, more expensive and uses a dedicated strap. I'm struggling with deciding which option to go with, tang or folding!

My strategy is to wear slightly loose to allow for temperature changes. Easier on the strap and less chance of indentation to the leather. I prefer a clasp to a tang as there's less chance of dropping the watch when putting on.

Good advice. I need to adjust my current watch by about 3-4mm occasionally, doesn't sound much but the change in feel is very noticeable to me. Very slightly loose is much better than a little tight for me. I'm starting to move more towards the folding clasp again! Your good advice is starting to cost me money!!!

You have to go for what's best for you. The clasp is more expensive but, in my opinion, is the better option.

With any watch that is purchased the choice with leather straps is normally tang or deployant buckle. However, there is a third option, purchase a rubber strap and the push button clasp of your choice. After cutting the rubber strap to size, (utilizing the push button clasp to make fine adjustments) you now have the necessary measurements for any independent strap maker to use in making you a custom leather strap for use with the push button clasp. With the independent strap maker you can choose the type of leather, the lining that you prefer and stitching that is any color. I have a couple of custom straps that I think are absolutely gorgeous and cost much less than a original Breitling strap!

That's an interesting option, would you be happy to share a link to your custom strap supplier?

Here are two independent strap makers who could do the work.

http://www.jean-rousseau.com
http://www.combat-straps.com

I have dealt with Jean Rousseau only because they have a store close to where I live. I have communicated with Aaron from combat straps and what I described above was possible for him to manufacture. Aaron posts on several forums and if you check on watchrecon you will find one of his posts, checking out all of his post will show what is possible. Good luck!

I have this issue with my deployment clasp with the diverpro 3 rubber band; the clasp slips making the watch a bit loose on my wrist. I was asking if this is a common problem. Looks like I will have to cut the band and lose the option of expanding it by the deployment clasp.

the new 2018 deployants are no longer friction fit but use a pin in a tang like strap

So this means they changed it because the older design caused the clasp to slip?

no i think it was changed because of a few reasons, one the new clasp is more elegant, the strap doesn't have to double under so its much thinner etc.

the friction slippage is easy to fix just compess the friction element a little

yes, you see the the folded pieces of metal that the strap goes through on the inside of the south side of the clasp?

compress them a little in the middle and it will keep the south side in position more

Cheers
