Post subject:  Alternative to the crappy canvas strap on my SA Military

So after hardly any wear, the 100W canvas type strap on my 8 month old SAII Military has started to fray, especially the loose keeper which has almost disintegrated. I've complained to BUK about this but they wanted the whole watch back - now considering it's been back there twice already, 6 weeks each time for mechanical issues, I'm loathed to send it back for 'just' a strap issue.

I did eventually talk them into looking at the issue by sending some photos by email, but am still waiting for even an acknowlegement.

Whilst on the phone I asked about a suitable metal bracelet I could fit and They claim there isn't one - at all. End of. I mentioned that I understood the black steel Ocean Classic would fit but was told NO. Because the SA requires special end links to fit the case profile.

Now as I understand it, the Ocean Classic has perfectly straight end links. No different to the canvas strap really. But I was told that because it was a Black Steel watch, it would rub the coating off. They didn't say where exactly....

I'm thinking this is all bull, and all that the customer services person was doing was looking at the official options originally available for this watch and because the mesh wasn't listed, they say it won't fit.

Can anyone please advise who knows the SAII and also the Ocean Classic ... I'd hate to spend £900 to find it really doesn't fit but feel I'm being strung a yarn for convenience here.

Have you thought of the über strap? Like this one here?

Great idea Wes.

well, if you like the look of the canvas strap, you could purchase the original, the Morellato Cordura.
assume they manufacture for B too, straps are very similar - it might be as "crappy", but it only costs around $25 ;)

Not at all fond of the rubber straps, and the cost would be for a black steel deployant which will whack the price right up for something I'm not too fussy about.

Regarding the canvas, I do quite like it as its light but considering how little I wear it, it has worn terribly. All my other watches are on metal bracelets and I really like the look of the Ocean Classic as fitted to the Chronospace Military and because THAT also has the canvas as an option, I figure that the case shape isn't that much different to the SAII and as the OC is straight, just like the canvas and rubber, it should fit ok.

BUK have actually agreed to replace the canvas bracelet which is at least commendable, but I fear I will be back in the same position in 6 months....

Just had my new BlackSteel Ocean Classic arrive - fitted and looks stunning.

Thanks to Andrew Michaels (AMJ Watches) who 'cut through the carp' for me, checked out fitment, ordered and delivered to me in 2 days and at a good price too!

BUK did eventually send me a replacement canvas strap which has gone straight into the box as a keeper - doubt I'll wear it on that again, whilst being fairly light and comfy, it's not robust enough for such a heavy watch.

Ocean Racer strap is nice. I would try and source a black mesh bracelet like the one on the black steel Navitimer 1461. Now that would be an awesome combo!

Wow just realized you went with the black steel mesh, congrats!! That's a really tough combo with that model SA.

I also like the black mesh. Where would I get one?

eBay or you could order one through an AD. Also I believe Authentic Watches has one, but their pricing is high.

I priced one out at an AD-$1150.00. Ouch.

Never seen one on eBay. Expensive for a strap/bracelet but not as expensive as some. Mine was £890 inc postage IIRC but has transformed the wearability of the watch - easier to put on, easier to adjust (the strap never had a hole in just the right place) and just looks so damned cool.
