Post subject:  What do you think of exotic straps

I know that there are a lot of people here who put different straps on their watches, and obviously the Panerai fans have a whole culture of that. As I have said before I really like ABP and they have some really unusual ones that I am thinking about for some more sporty watches, but I've never seen anyone here with anything similar.

Not necessarily thinking exotic leathers, but here are some from ABP's gallery that appeal to me for the right watch. I know that the specific watch will make all the difference but just concerned that they may detract from the watch??

When it comes to straps, I'm pretty conservative. None of those appeal to me. But then I refuse to buy a suit without reverse double pleated pants, cuffs, and if the pattern is discernable from more than 15 feet, it's too loud.

My biggest strap quandry presently is whether to dye the white contrast stitching on my new black croco. Even have the dye. Still not sure. So I'm likely not the guy to be objective on those straps.

Taste is a moving target, though I don't ever see the python one on a watch I own.

Roff! I had no idea you were into that crazy exotic stuff! I kind of like the Python, but the rest are a bit too flavourful for my palette.

While I still like a bit of pattern like a glenplaid for my suits, I do prefer flat front pants and stick to leather or shell cordovan for my shoes. So I'll take Leather, Croco/Alligator, Ostrich, and occasionally Shark most of the time. I have seen some nice Python and Beaver, but I can't wear those regularly.

It goes with the 'different' watch drive as well. I already have a hippo strap, but looking to go a little more extravagant. It just seems to me that as I add some wilder watches the straps just seem kinda ordinary.

Woah! I love the stitch job on that Hippo, though the hide itself reminds me a bit of elephant. Who made that one?

I'm guessing ABP. They're usually the only ones who have weird hides like that. They had elephant available for a while there too.

Nope, that's a Rob Montana. Don't know whether he still has any hippo, but it is 'Elephant like' - I guess that kinda makes sense :?:

WOW some of those straps look awesome, I like the hornback Alligator straps and the tribal ones are real nice too. Not too sure about the Toad strap but I dont think you will see too many of them about.
I dont think they detract from the watch itself if its the right watch. Just put my SF on Rubber and it looks fantastic, shows the watch off really nicely, I thought the black calf strap I had on there before did till I got the rubber.

I like some of those a lot - who's the maker(s)?

The sharks are Strapworks (speedie), Heroic18 (SA), KWongs (Pams)
The 2 crocs are Ray's (paneray.com)
The jeans & embossed (synthetic material) are mine

I'm probably a little conservative for most of those as well

You really don't need to ask too much - I quite like to spice up the day with something unusual. Haven't been posting a lot lately but I'm still around every now and then. :)
