Whilst I'm not part of the buying group, I would like to throw a couple of ideas into the ring regarding name/logo.

1. Airplane logo
IMHO, you'll never get agreement on a specific type. We all have our favourites and one of the first rules of design is to cast aside "self reference criteria" ie what you personally like or dislike. Therefore, I feel the outline should be more generic rather than type specific. Whilst I agree no reference to Breitling/Breitlingsource should be on the watch, the association could be hinted at by using an outline of a L-39 which is the jet trainer used in the Breitling display team. All these single seat jets look much the same so it could be a Hawk, Alpha Jet etc so unlikely to cause copyright issues.

This is the outline

Image

Keep it solid colour as it will have to come down to just a couple of mm high on the watch face.

2. Brand name
Creation of a brand name would allow the watch to be distributed outside of this board. Again, looking to hint at BreitlingSource, I played around with BS and came up with Black Star.

Image

You could even have Yngwie Malmsteen as an ambassador!

Good luck with the project!

I actually really like the Round The World Balloon option..... provided it's done in a cool logo kind of way on the caseback only - i.e. a stylised balloon going round a globe.

I think wording round the logo should be no more than "Orbiter 3" and possibly "1999 - 2009", which is great as it's a 10 year anniversary. I also think putting "Breitling" on it would be a mistake as it's a Steinhart watch(!) and I even think Steinhart themselves may have a problem with it. The word "Orbiter 3" is enough of a nod to it IMHO.

Great idea Altair!

Thanks.

You know since they did it in 19 days we might do an LE of 19, just a thought...

Anyway, here is what I was thinking of in terms of design, Panerai made something similar to what I was thinking of:

smaller globe, with a rotating speeding sphere

OK, I am going to be the voice of opposition regarding aviation based logo ideas. This is NOT a Breitling, IWC or Bell and Ross. All of which have giant ties to aviation. I would like to think that this LE should be something simple like no logo or something that (without saying BreitlingSource.com), it would have something that distinguishes it as originating HERE. We have members (interested) that are spred out all over the globe and any national type of reference to a particular military vehicle is just going to put off someone outside of that particular country. (IMO)

I vote for script text on the dial "Limited Edition" or "Special Limited Edition" maybe in red and number it on the case back.

On another note, you all wanting the DB (like myself), should have voted non-chrono...hmmmm? :poke: I call for a revote including just the top two choices. :)

You know what, Bronco - The more I think about the logo thing, the more I'm starting to agree with you about just not having one at all. Logos are actually tricky things to get right and companies spend a huge amount of time and money getting them right, so if we rush it through it might look..... well....... crap!

I like the simplicity of your second point in red too.

With regards to your point in blue........... well, I guess that's up to Altair as he's the driving force behind this. I voted Chrono, but I'm more than happy to back a call for a revote on the Pilot Chrono and the standard Pilot. The DB is a really nice thing and possibly a shame to pass up.

I guess my idea was not considered for the case back? A generic globe with The LE number and "The Source" with dates? Kinda all inclusive and a generic reference to the forum? I would probably be out if you change to the nonchrono. Sorry..

I was thinking we had members all over the world so a Globe would have a meaning. The date the forum was formed would identify it as a FORUM watch and not a mention of Breitling :lingsrock:

I love the idea of having a little RED on the dial 8)

I like the way this idea is evolving. I also really like the idea of a globe. It's simple but represents the gloabl presence of forum members.

I too like the idea of script text - "Special Limited Edition" etc as Broncosport mentioned. Sounds classy and distinctive. The forum date would add special meaning as well.

All good ideas, peehaps a combination :D

I am in a hotel, frustrated by trying to type using 'TV Internet' and I had 3 beers with dinner, so factor that into this post, but.........

I voted for the non chrono when my first choice (Aviation) was going to lose because of the DB.

I love BreitlingSource (as my post count will attest) and if it can help get us an LE watch then that is amazing, but it is not quite 3 years old (Jan 2007) and so a little young for a comemorative LE. I also think that a BS specific LE should be Breitling.

I love the idea of a LE that doesn't scream LE - a XX/XX on the back is enough for me. A DB removes the need for a caseback logo (and allows for potential personalisation - I would pay more for my initials on the bridge as seen through a DB).

For the dial, a unique combo is enough for me - if it doesn't sa LE, so what. I am not generally a fan of logo dials.

Just my (alcohol induced) 0.02!

Agree completely with the great professor! DB with initials on the bridge or maybe our BreitlingSource screen name? I would ante up for that!

I would have to second the comment from Roff regarding the meantion of BreitlingSource on the actual watch. It is great that we were brought together by this great site and without this site we wouldnt even be discussing this LE (round 2).

But, as Roff said... the site is pretty young to have a comemorative piece and if so it MUST be a Breitling, hence the name BREITLINGsource.

I really like the idea of an ability to get our initials or screen name on the bridge, but if we stay with the Chrono its not even an option. Of course some will drop out if they dont get a chrono, but then again some didnt sign up with the higher priced (non DB) chrono.

Just food for thought.
