Post subject:  Problem with an early Emergency

Hi,

I have a problem with the ELT on an 1997 E56121 Emergency that I recently picked up at auction. All the documentation is correct for the watch and according to the service card it was last serviced in November 2010. When I go to test the transmitter, I don't have to place the watch on the tester, if I hold the tester within about 50cms of the watch I get the test tones. I have looked and all the seals on the antenna are correct and not broken.

Anybody seen this before?

Thanks

**update** I have dropped the watch off with my local AD and they are sending it to BUK next week to see if they can figure out what's wrong.

**update** Got word back from BUK today, they are going to fix the transmitter problem as part of a standard service but they wouldn't say what the problem was.

Ive not seen that before and I have the same model E.

The button on the back of the watch needs to be depressed in order to test the Tx function. If yours is running continuously then there is an issue, so best have the AD at it. As the antenna wasn't extended, it would not have transmitted any alert more than a few cm from the watch itself.

BTW, the battery for the Tx is separate to the one for the watch function, so you would not have knows it was on without using the tester (i.e. there is no low battery indicator for the Tx function)
