Post subject:  Steelfish x plus gaining time?

Hi,

I Just got a new Super Ocean Steelfish X-plus, from Cherry Design here in South Africa, the problem is that it gains about 30 seconds per day. I went to www.breitling .com and according to them all breitling automatic watches should not lose more than -4 or +6 seconds per day. I phoned my dealer and they said that up to 4 minutes per week are acceptable for an automatic.

I went to the website after i phoned them so i did not challange them. What should i do? I have winded it up about 20 turns. I have read somewhere on the forum of somebody who also has a steelfish and he said that with time it came right.

Cherry Design is on the list of approved retailers according to www.breitling.com so i know for sure that it is not a fake.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Your AD is wrong in that a properly adjusted Breitling should be off no more than -28 or +42 seconds per week (COSC spec).

If it was sold as a Steelfish X Plus, it's an older model (could have been NOS) as that was only sold that way in 2006. If it's a NOS one or a brand new Steelfish (no X-Plus designation), I'd give it a few weeks before getting it regulated. My 2 year old Steelfish was running a consistant -8s / day. I had my AD regulate it a week ago and it's much better now (< -2s day). Fully wind it and set it to the atomic clock. Check it at the same time every following day for a week and keep a log of how far it's out. This data will enable your AD to regulate it to your usage patterns. I know it's disappointing to have a new watch that doesn't keep time, but give it some time to break in and see how consistent it is. If it is gaining or losing a steady amount, it can be regulated to get it back into COSC spec. If it's erratic and gains/loses different amounts each day, it need to be returned or serviced.

Welcome aboard and please avoid double posting.
It will settle and adjust on your rythm in a few weeks.
If it still goes out of COSC, AD will regulate it free of charge as long as the warranty is valid.

Welcome aboard. Sound advice from both the responses so far.

Incidentally as Bnewbie said, please avoid duplicate posts in multiple forums - hence I've merged Bnewbie's response to your first post into this one and deleted the duplicate.

Another South African - now I don't feel so alone anymore. :D

Welcome Stoner1234. Just a quick question - Why did you get the X plus Steelfish and not the current version?

Hi

Thanks for the feedback, I saw the x-plus on the internet and i thought that it was the latest version so i asked them to order me a x-plus apperantly there was only one left i only later realised that it is a model from 2006

I will wear it for a week or so more and if it still gains time i will send it in for re calibrating.

It arrived still in the plastic wrapping and protective covers so i know it is new i do not mind it being made in 2006.

It needs more than a week to settle.

Stoner1234,

That looks like the current Steelfish to me. The X Plus has a square pointer on the seconds hand.
