hi all

My Father-in-Law has always been a bit "careful with money" - ie there's no way he'd spend £10 if he could get away with spending £1. He's always worn - AFAIK - old / cheap no-brand watches. Helping to clear out his stuff the other day, Mother-in-law presented me with a pile of watches she'd found in various places. Mostly garbage that doesn't work & was in poor condition.

A couple of others were interesting - a non-running late 1940s/1950 chrono from "ASTIN", with a Landeron 48 movement. Case is in shocking state so not really worth fixing unless I can find a replacement mid-case. It's engraved with his name though I suspect that might be a later addition; maybe he inherited it and had it marked, or it could have been a gift, maybe even an 18th birthday present or something.

A running (just) "Crusader" fixed-bar military style watch that looks like it might be late 1920s / early 30s; suspect that might be his grandfather's.

But of real interest to me (and you I suspect :) ) is...

It's not running so will need a service and I presume it's had a replacement crown at some point and is clearly also missing a pusher cap. I wonder if the ding in the back of the case caused any problems...

Interestingly, when I first got it, I thought it was missing the inner bezel but decided to pop the crystal off and take a look within... realising then that the bezel was flipped over. I wonder if the crystal came off at some point, the bezel fell out, and it was just stuffed back in the wrong way.

It's not in the best shape, but I reckon this must be my wife's grandfather's watch (he was an architect; FIL was a gardener)... so it aint going anywhere other than to be serviced...
