Hi all,

I recently was able to acquire a Datora 2030 rally, a model I’ve always wanted. It has come in the mail and the watch is running and keeping good time and the dial looks great for its age. (Yes, it’ll need crown and pushers.) One thing, the watch has drilled lugs, which I have never seen before on these. And now I’m starting to wonder if the lugs are all wrong and if I got screwed. Any help is appreciated. Images below!

Best,

Daniel

very, very weird; case "polished to death" so it lost most of its original characteristics - and w/ incorrectly drilled lugs.
assume the case was massively damaged and somebody tried to "salvage" it.

case looked like this (2211 used the same cases as the 2030) :

Thanks Fred! Honestly, the thing I am most confused about is this notch on the face of the case near where the lugs are - no amount of polishing could create this. Wondering if you have an image of a correct case showing this angle? Maybe it is there on the correct case and I’m just not seeing it?Image
Excuse my crude drawing but I’ve pointed to the part of the case in question. Image

Thanks,
Daniel

the "notch" has been created by butchering the case, no, it isn't there on the original, somebody tried to "re-create" the original shape.

here's a 2111 Chrono-Matic, same case shape

Ah, gotcha. Now I’ve got a dilemma in terms of what to do. I know the Heists and others can work miracles but maybe this is too far gone? Or perhaps a spare case is floating in the ether?

WAY too far gone, no way to salvage this case
even laser welding won't help here.
yes, be on the lookout for a donor case

I’m away from home, but I might have a donor case….. but not promising anything…but I did swap a NOS case into mine years ago, and no recollection of disposing of it.

Heists would be way too expensive for this, and that case isn’t recoverable. Can you return it?

I can try to return it…we will see if it happens. I’ve initiated the process. That said, If you do have a donor case, I’d be very interested! Let me know.

My return was accepted and I am going to send the Datora back. I think it’s better to start fresh than try to piece a watch together. I appreciate your offer immensely, though!
