Hi all! I’ve been a member of this message board for years, but it has dawned on me that when I come here it is usually only to pick the experts’ brains. It’s often been a one-way street, with me not sharing too much. So I wanted to show you my small collection of vintage Breitling chronographs. I have acquired these over a decade or so; each one runs and wear beautifully and I do my best to keep them on my wrist as much as possible.

As you can see, I love chronographs from the ‘40s through the early ‘70s. The Top Time was my first “grail,” and I still love it. The Sprint is my latest addition. I have one more piece currently with the Heists — I’ll post it when it returns.

Best,
Daniel

I’ll probably always love the Top Time most, as it was the spark for me with Breitling and sent me down the rabbit hole of watch collecting in general. Picked it up on eBay, broken, for about $800 back in early 2013. Times have changed…

Hi all,

I thought I’d return to this thread to share my latest Breitling, an 815 chronograph. It just returned from a restoration with Mark Heist. After nearly a year, it’s great to finally have it on the wrist! The shininess on the dial makes it tough to photograph, but a pic is attached.

Great trio. I’m only up to a duo so far lol with my 769 and a 790. Am in the hunt for a 2002 just like yours though!

Out of curiosity, are you open to sharing the approximate serial of your 769? I’m wondering if the non-cursive logo font on the dial is an indication that it’s later. Mine has the cursive Breitling logo, its serial dates it to 1946-1947.

serial doesn‘t help to date steel 769, as the last case batch was manufactured in 1947 and assembled until ca. 1958.

the 769 above helps even less, as that‘s a relatively recent service dial

Ahh okay that explains it. Thanks Fred!

Yep, the dial on this was put on the watch by the Heists a few years ago!
