Hi all! I am curious for y’all’s opinion on a watch being marketed in an auction as a Breitling Sprint circa 1940s.

I am certainly aware of the Breitling Sprint models — I have one being restored at Horological Services as we speak! — but came across this on eBay and wondered whether it was legit. I am doubtful this is a Breitling, but perhaps I am wrong? Maybe Sprint was once a sub brand?

I believe including auction links here is a faux pas, so I will leave that out.

Also, I see a “sprint” dialed watch photographed in this story: https://www.fratellowatches.com/vintage ... nterviews/

Would love to hear your thoughts! Image

I’m sure it’s real and correct. 1930s though, not 1940s :)

Interesting. Researching this, I’ve seen a few other watches with Sprint on the dial. Was it a sub brand of Breitling? When did the Sprint dials (without Breitling on the dial) stop? Do they have any value or are they just curiosities?

Here's the Breitling version. Small watch.

Breitling only started to use their name for branding in the mid-1930s, before that most dials were “sterile”, i.e. without branding, or “Montbrillant” and “Sprint”.

Ah, how interesting. Didn’t know that. Thanks for the info!
